i completed sniper elite 1 after playing other games in the series, and lets just say, it was definitely a product of its time.

graphics were super dated and the map design was weirdly open, but the bullet physics and kill cams were amazing for a game that old, and i think thats why the franchise took off.

Sniper elite v2 is technically a reboot of sniper elite 1, in the same way that red dead redemption is a reboot of red dead revolver. in sniper elite 1, the main character karl looks a lot younger, wears an army cap and a camo outfit, and is never actually referred to as karl, everyone just calls him "Eagle Watch". he doesnt have his raspy deep voice like in all the other games. instead, he sounds like he's only 20 years old and he's really soft spoken.

the missions were interesting and you could approach them in several different ways, allowing for unique strategies for both stealth and guns blazing play styles

the movement feels like you are on roller skates unless you cap your framerate at 30 using a third party tool (i used RivaTuner Statistics Server) but even after you fix that problem it still feels strange since you have to press buttons to speed up and slow down instead of just having a designated sprint button and walk toggle button

the stealth was kinda bad, there was no detection meter and enemies pretty much spot you instantly if you arent hidden very well, and they have insanely good hearing and can hear you running from super far away, but you can use that to your advantage to lure them away from areas. you can also still throw rocks and use soundmasks, but there is no indicator for when the soundmask activates, so you have to guess.

the guns besides snipers were very awkward to use since you cannot aim down the sight with them and can only hip fire with a really bad third person camera that has your character in the middle of the screen, which ends up blocking most of your vision up close.

overall, the game was alright, it provided a decent challenge, and it was fun to try really long range shots and shoot fuel caps of tanks and trucks, as well as trying to get stealth kills and sneaking around enemies. I recommend trying it if you are a fan of the series, but you probably should play sniper elite 2 if you are new to the series, since it is a reboot and it improves every aspect of the original.
