Shin Megami Tensei - Devil Summoner - Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Soulless Army, was one of the first ATLUS games I ever played. And it was the first game I ever did a Let's Play of. The LP was short lived, only a few episodes before I got confused as to where to go next and gave up, to the dismay of my viewers who had been enjoying it.

Raidou Remastered : The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a remake/remaster of the original Raidou game. Currently I'm about 3 hours in, but I feel I've played enough that I can comment. What you get with this is similar to what you often get with ATLUS remake/remasters, which is to say, namely, voice acting. With some companies that could come off lazy, not in this case. Most ATLUS games from this era have a massive amount of dialogue, a mountain of it, and good voice acting can turn a game that was merely good, into a GREAT WORK. This is such a great work. The voice acting is amazing, wonderful, full of life and vigor and emotion, great acting, everything great. It also includes massively improved visuals, better graphics, better cutscenes, better everything. And they used the battle system from it's sequel Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abbadon, instead of the more dated and old system, which had been criticized. The second game was lauded for having a better combat system, it's been carried over into this, and basically every element of the original game has been improved. It has gone from being a pretty good game, to a GREAT GAME, overnight. I was really surprised with how good this plays. This is one of my favorite ATLUS games actually. The team who did it are kind of a new team in the company, I think I heard, I think they did Persona 5 The Phantom X as well, so their work is kind of controversial, but still highly praised. Sales on this title could have been better, but it was always a niche game to begin with, so I guess it'll stay like that. Won't be the beast seller you get with Persona 5, but I think it's still selling respectfully, and it's getting good ratings from the people who play it, so if you are looking for a new ATLUS game to jump into, this is a great choice.

Now, the game itself, it's set in a really unique setting, Japan in the early 1900's,
Which gives it a kind of charm that you just don't get anywhere else.
The story concerns Raidou Kuzunoha, which is a title rather than a name,
it is bestowed on the player character when he completes the trials at the start of the game.
The introduction area is actually pretty hard, and it kicked my ass just like it did on my first LP Playthrough,
until I lowered the game's difficult, uh, again. If you want you can lower the difficulty all the way to
cheap impossible to lose territory, literally you can't die on the lowest difficulty.
Higher difficulties are available for people who love punishment, but for a guy like me,
who is not actually that good at action videogames, I stick with the lower difficulties mostly,
and they can be changed on the fly. After the player defeats the rather boastful demon boss at the start
in the temple, you're given the name Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV'th. And a smart mouthed cat name Goutou,
who has a particularly good voice actor, in my opinion.

Then you're off to your detective agency, the Narumi detective agency,
where you'll meet Narumi, your partner in following the law,
Your first case involves meeting a young woman on a bridge somewhere in the city,
She asks you to kill her. Saying something about how she's about to have her 16th birthday soon and a demon will come, or something like that. Then she is kidnapped by officers of the Soulless Army.

As you're trying to figure out what's going on, you get involved in other cases,
Like finding out what's in the basement of a wealthy family's mansion,
You recruit demons by capturing them, without a Pokeball (so Nintendo can't sue),
And these demons function as combat allies, but also have their own special powers,
which you can use to read people's minds, ignite and reinvigorate their spirit, find hidden objects,
fly, and all sorts of other things. They're really useful and it gives the game a puzzle element.
If you're unable to solve a problem, maybe you need some new demons?
It will switch between them as needed for the situation if you have the right demons.
The story is really good, really interesting and well written,
and again the voice acting really makes it come alive.
I'd like to see more remakes and remasters coming out of ATLUS in the months and years to come,
and I can't wait to see what they do next! THEY'RE MY FAVORITE COMPANY!!!!

They are the best thing in life,
and I'm really happy with this game.

Right now I'm playing Metaphor Refantazio and
this. And I hope to complete them both relatively soon, (within a year or two)
Here's hoping for a good future for ATLUS,
and more great games like this to come!!! HUZZAH!!!!

One of the best games ever made, I played it for about 15 hours before I lost my cloud saves but this game has the best characters, the best gameplay, the best combat, the best UI, arguably the best thing ATLUS ever made. Still worth checking out Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Golden, but this is my favorite of the series. It deals in mature themes, especially during the kamoshida arc. I'm glad I finally got started on this game again, I'm almost at the point i lost my saves, and then this is all new to me. I can't overemphasize how much i like these characters. 10/10

Here let me spoil a bit of the FEAR & HUNGER 2 TERMINA storyline.

Im going to make this my steam review.

In the intro, you have a weird dream, where half skinned monsters are forcing you to make boxes, he cuts off your legs, and you crawl around and he kills you.

Then you are standing in front of an evil moon 🌙 🎶
The servant of the moon restores your limbs.
And tells you about the festival of terminus.
14 enter, but on the third day if 1 survives, they are granted entry to another world 🌎.

So I wake up from the dream and everyone had the same dream. I walk out of the train, picking up randomized items.

I come outside the train.

All the characters I could have chosen are standing there.

I notice immediately that I can attack them, talk to them, or pursue my quest hiking into the woods.

I am a female occultist.
And it is the terminus festival after all.

I find the soul mage, a black dude, and I try to kill him, to see what happens, but he's too powerful, he kills me in a round or two, with powerful magic.

Then I think to myself, first time I tried this on pc, I was the girl in a wheelchair ♿.

I restart and get to the same point.

I attack the girl in a wheelchair, she complains as I kill her.

Then they all tackle me,
And tie me up.

I struggle for about 2 or 3 minutes, then some people wander in, talking about what they're going to do with me. They wander off to find an officer to arrest me.
The train staff all stopped the train in the middle of nowhere and wandered away.

Then I get summoned to the moon again. The servant of the moon congratulates me on killing the first of the 13, he tells me that although I am free to do what I want, it's probably better not to survive until day 3. He gives me a save point (a rare find) and sets me off on my mission to kill the other 12, and that's what I'm going to do.

But that was only one path I could have taken. I could have stayed with the people waiting by the train. I could have wondered through the forest towards the large and foreboding tower in the distance, within the walls of the city. And I could have been any of the other characters, including soul mage.

A VERY STRONG START.
5/5 ON THE FIRST 20 MINUTES ALONE.

[will update after I win the game]

These Smitemaster levels are designed for experienced players, some are easier than others, they're good if you've bought Gunthro KDD JTRH and TCB for somewhere in the region of 1 cent per hour of gameplay, and you want to continue giving Caravel money, or if you're an experienced Smitemaster who has conquered the other games and needed a new challenge. I am the former. I probably could have negotiated some free steam keys with the too nice for their own good developers, but I genuinely want to give them money. I bought the entire game with all the expansions for about 11 dollars in the sale, this will be my platform of choice going forward. Unfortunately, my brain is too weak to make use of these levels, I will go back to Gunthro. I'll find the easiest one and try that at another time. Every bit as devious as the core games, intended for advanced players.

I bought DROD on GOG a long time ago, I have played Journey to Rooted Hold for about 4 or 5 hours, not much really, but this is one of the finest puzzle games I have ever played, it's as good as Portal, except honestly this game makes Portal kind of look like a Chump. It's a lot smarter than Portal, the interactions are more complex, and fiendishly difficult. Portal 2 lasts about 8 hours, 8 hours of pure fun, but Journey To Rooted Hold is more like 100 hours. If you find this game in a sale you can easily walk away with the base game Gunthro, for $2.75, and then pick up King Dungan's Dungeon, Journey to Rooted Hold, and The City Beneath, for bloody.... $2.75. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH WIN THAT IS?!?! I'll do the calculations for you. 300 % 2.75, 109.090909090909 hours of gameplay, for every dollar you spend. Forgo your bagel, buy the best puzzle game series in existence. Sell your Physical Copy of The Witness on PS4, to buy all of the Smitemaster's Selections. Buy The Second Sky and get crushed so hard into the ground you become a fine powder, and respect that one day this game hopes you are capable of playing it.
