Early Access Review
After spending 24 hours in this simulator I can confidently say that I love it, and I'm only just starting the Apollo training after completing the Mercury and Gemini campaigns. The fidelity reminds me of really good FSX payware aircraft, visually and functionally, with a vast array of systems to interact with and monitor for each spacecraft. Nearly every switch, button, and dial can be interacted with and has a function, and the in-game checklist system really helps point out which one to flip, press, or turn to stay ahead of the craft after some academy training and familiarization with the procedures. Most checklist items will highlight the corresponding switch, if it has one, much like the highlighting in MSFS2020, and the checklist will auto-tick off the item as the switch is put into the correct spot.

As a simulator enthusiast with a history in flight sims, I can say the gameplay loop is very similar to flying an airliner. A ton of time is spent flicking switches, setting up the computer, and monitoring instruments as the craft flies itself. But the in-depth process of all this automation mixed with the moments of manual control, whether that be visually maneuvering around another vessel in orbit or using the computer and event timer to perform a retrograde burn and return to Earth, makes it rewarding to anyone with an interest in spaceflight and in-depth simulation.

I can't wait for future updates and the eventual Space Shuttle DLC!

Easily one of the best games I've ever played. The story, the characters, the music, the setting, it all comes together to form an unforgettable experience from beginning to end, starting off with, imo, the hardest intro cutscene in gaming. But you know what GTA IV is, it's over 15 years old now.

In recent years, however, Rockstar has neutered this game, particularly with the removal of iconic radio tracks, not to mention the fact the PC port of this game was kinda shottily made in the first place. To remedy the metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of problems this port can have, I highly recommend Gillian's GTA IV Mod Guide (google it, it's the github link). It's a repository of mods that's as easy as dragging & dropping the files into your game directory then running a config .exe. This modpack adds a ton of gameplay and graphical fixes, allowing you to focus on the game and not the dodginess of the port. This guide also walks you through the install process of dxvk (a single .dll file) which, from what I understand, will translate the Direct3D runtime to Vulkan, which can drastically increase performance on modern machines. For example, my GTX 1060 went from 30-40fps (really felt like sub-30 with the stutter) to a consistent 60. I also highly recommend you block the Rockstar Launcher from accessing the internet via Windows Firewall, as well. This prevents it from trying to "auto-update" (ruin) your GTA IV install every time you launch it. The modpack supposedly bypasses this, and it did for a while, but one day when launching, the Rockstar launcher butted it's way in and started trying to "fix" stuff. I promply blocked every single program in the Rockstar Launcher directory with Windows firewall, and now it just starts in offline mode and is perfectly content running GTA IV as-is. NOTE: you won't be able to play on any official Rockstar online service while these firewall rules are active because it simply can't reach the servers to do so.

I've only encountered two problems so far, and one of them was a fluke. The first is that, on occasion, you'll get into a vehicle and drive away only to have zero engine sound. AI traffic still has engine noise, and I have tire noise, but engine SFX just dies only to come back seemingly at random as if nothing ever happened. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, but isn't terribly game-breaking to me.
The second, the fluke, happened in a taxi. I was getting a ride from Algonquin to Alderny because I had to take a leak and wanted to see how far a taxi could get me in about a minute. Well, I return and see my taxi driver had crashed in the tunnel somehow and wasn't moving. Okay, great. I go to move my mouse and look around and, alas, the game had completely locked up LOL. The only time the game locked up on me and forced me to close it, I was AFK and wasn't recording so what exactly happened remains a mystery to me.

Otherwise, with the modpack and everything else, 10/10 game. Rockstar, itself, gets a 2/10 for releasing a terribly optimized port and, after making hundreds of millions of dollars with GTA Online, didn't renew the music licenses for this game and opted to remove the songs instead.

I nominated this game for the Test of Time Award. Honestly, I think this game massively deserves it, as after 10 years, this game still has a strong and thriving community. (Plus, this is my most played game lol)
