Surprisingly good. In this game, the expectation of surviving with all your heroes alive is.. totally unreasonable.

Got this game recommended to me by a friend and after having watched him play it for a solid while, I was sold. Probably one of the most worthy purchases I have done on this steam account.

I've played this game for a while now and I don't expect that this is going to change anytime soon. You'll see a lot of complaints about this game being very RNG-heavy. While this is true, and you will get your ass slapped by continuous bad RNG (like entering the first battle with 80 stress due to traps and heroes inspecting curios with a negative outcome) you can absolutely do something about this. For example, the most successful explorations require the best preparation. Not risking killing an enemy and instead healing your hero, may save you from (negative) stress (resolves) on your party and/or a hero.

There's a lot of considerations to be made in playing this game. Paying a high amount of gold to get rid of a negative quirk is something I had never thought of when I was a newer player. But consider this; if a quirk lowers your dodge by 5 and you decide to get rid of this for a measly 1500-5000 gold, just think of the amount of times you won't be hit in the grand scheme of things. Gold is a limited resource and is used to upgrade your heroes, this also requires you to think about where you spend it.

Combat is fun in this game. There's two kinds of passive damage, crit% you can influence with equipment, as well as with abilities, there's stunning attacks, and a newly introduced stealth mechanic that disallows you from hitting the enemy with this ability for 2 turns. Then there's the different classes. There's nearly endless amount of party compositions you can build with (including DLC) 17 different hero classes available, allowing you to experiment with this. That said, religious characters do not want to venture out with the 'Abomination' class, effectively making a great composition I had in mind fall into shambles.

The art style attributes to the more sinister, shadowy feel of the game. Then last but certainly not least, the narrator is incredible. Along with the general narration of the game, it creates this extreme and inhumane environment, while the characters feel very humane.
