If you told me one of my favorite games of 2024 would be a Poker rogue-lite game, I would have had many questions before I started playing this.

I no longer have any questions.

From time to time the movement, the enemies, the weapons, the RNG... they may not all mesh perfectly in this in the sort of way that can sometimes occur in a run based game. But when you are in the zone and the RNG is kind to you? This game gives you such a wonderful experience. The best way I can describe it is: think of the gun designs of something like a Borderlands, but make the gun play actually feel good, and make it run based. Roboquest.

With all of the maps, all of the different modes, all the extra content both timed and not that this game tosses at you, if you like the general idea behind this game (and there is a lot behind it to like) then you will not be without content to do it in. If you are a man hitter, there is much man to hit in this hit game about a hitman.

Early Access Review
I have to say, I tend to have a lot of general problems with boomer shooters. Most of those have something to do with the map being incomprehensible, or the landscape itself being relatively difficult to figure out how to progress.

Selaco solves a lot of that by having an absolutely excellent map that showcases precisely where you have been walking, so that you can see where your dumbass has wandered around for the past thirty minutes and realize you were too stupid to go and look into that one hallway that, of course, is the way you need to go to continue the game.

This one change alone has made this game LEAGUES better for my smooth brain. Combine that with legitimately fun gunplay, enemies and maps that evolve as you continue to beat up people, and a very pretty aesthetic and I can only say that this is the boomer shooter for those that have always wanted to like them but never quite could.

Decent shooting mechanics, reminded me of Halo at it's best. A lot of effort in the story, though not sure how I generally feel about it and of course a lot of it now is stuff that you can't go back to as the campaigns are just straight up removed.

Seems like a game in general that really doesn't know what it wants to be. Does it want to be a straight up looter shooter? Does i want to be a tight and competitive fps? Maybe an Action RPG with skills and leveling? Or a narrative adventure, diving into complicated stories? And it tries to do all of that and bombards you with all of that at once in a way that just gets really distracting.

And at the end of the day, you will be just doing very similar things, to complete very similar combat encounters, to get moderately different items.

And yes, the monetization aspects seem, at best, overpriced.

A lot of people have extolled on the virtues of this being a good stealth game, perhaps one of the best, and I'd agree with that. If what you want is a pure stealth experience, the game does that super well.

HOWEVER. As someone whose idea of stealth is "dead men tell no tales," I have to say that the game does not needlessly punish you for going loud, and indeed in certain maps it seems to rather expect you to do so, even giving you incentive via some achievements to do so. There is exactly one map that to get the absolute best ending you will need to do fully non-lethally, but besides that it is up to you how loud and how bloody you wish to take it. And just as importantly, both methods (loud and quiet) are equally fun.

Give this game a shot. The original two are both good as well, with all of them being IMO just the right length as well. A game like this I think could overstay its welcome at 20 or 30 hours, but at tenish for the main campaign, and with the infrastructure clearly in place to support further campaigns or perhaps even workshop support at some point (here's hoping at least) it's spot on.

Kinda looked like it was going to be a neat modern take on a Mount and Blade.

Ended up being a really bizarre tale of how one developer ran off with the money to make a fetish game instead and left this project on constant "yeah yeah, we'll get around to it shut up" mode.

Needless to say, until they actually produce something? It's not worth buying even for the curiosity.
