As a huge side scrolling beat em' up fan, who likes their past works they were involved with was sorely disappointed by this. It's very short, and normally this is not an issue for games like this where you dont want them to go on for ever, but there just doesnt seem to be much replayability for the expected price. The cast is weak with too many odd ball choices instead of popular staples. (needs more xmen.) and these 15 characters all largely play exactly the same from a gameplay perspective so it's an illusion of choice.

The flying enemies are annoying, not hard just not fun, and the game is very easy in general. The game looks nice but go play absolum to find out who hit impacts and sounds should work in a game like this.
There are better options for this style of game out there, like Streets of rage 4 and the aforementioned Absolum. If you don't have those games I would strongly recommend those before you give this a passing glance. Id recommend this on a deep sale for the price to be justified for what you are getting here.

Unironically my 2025 GOTY.

This is an evolution of the beat em up genre spliced with a bit of old school dragons crown and a roguelike similar to hades in design. Very clever way to hybridize the beat em up genre and keep it fresh.

But that alone would not have been enough, Games like these live and die by the quality of their combat feel, and as this is the developer of Streets of Rage 4 who in my honest opinion helped create one of if not the best side scrolling beat em ups ever made, and combat feel is a big factor in this.

This developer just gets it and other developers wanting to improve their combat design would be well served to take note, Hit stop, premium animations and a sound design which makes every punch combo sound and feel as you are performing a drum fill. creates a package of an immaculate (one last run) fun feeling game to play.

I wondered for a while recently if I am just one of those wierdos that enjoy this arcage style of game, but Double dragon revive reminded me that just cause it sidescrolling beat em up doesnt mean Im going to like it cause that game is horrible and fundamentally misunderstands what the developers of Absolum do. For the record I also don't like Cosmic invasion.

This should be indie game of the year as far as I am concerned. And even fighting games would be well served to take inspiration from it for their single player content.

Couldn't even map my traditional MK layout fightstick due to the game requiring 2 blocks and 2 run buttons and no way to simply unbind unwanted controls, and the interface refusing to let you continue without resetting to default. I wanted this for some of that arcade nostalgia which is practically the entire point of a collection like this.

Massive amounts of input delay in OFFLINE modes above the well know unfinished state of the online functionality. (no lobbies, no crossplay, no ranked no leaderboards ect). Also pretty sure inputs are being dropped.

Completely redundant entries such as gameboy versions instead of you know just putting the time into making the core game versions as accurate to the arcade as they can be or getting the N64 version of trilogy working.
Sound is also Abysmal.

I would advise being extremely wary of any positive reviews you see about this package. If it was near perfect them I would maybe consider the asking price justified, but this is worth nothing at all.

Has other glaring issues as well, but lets just say my experience fell over at the first hurdle with two broken legs.

Obvious WB cash grab as they look to sell off the IP.
Finish him, indeed.

Okay, it gets a thumbs up but there's issues... Relic Please address.

* Still no custom Keybinds in game..... come on your defaults are absurd.
* Can't lock cursor to screen regardless of options.
* Mods saved to system drive? what....
* Auto saving please wait .. in combat.

Seems like some old bugs still exist.

This game wins number 1 for the game that grew on me over time where I started thinking it was kinda janky average and confusing to what I now consider one of the best "free to play" games ever made.

Even the lore and story line is pretty interesting if not odd. If you can put in the amount of time required to get to it.

It's kinda like 3rd person pew pew Path of exile. If you haven't played it wait till the modding tutorial quest gets put in because like that game many people drop off the moment they look at the modding screen.

This game is the most underrated Turn Based SRPG ever made.
It's crazy how many people leave this game off best tactics rpg lists, like it doesn't even exist.
It's the living definition of a slept on gem.

* Probably the best animated game in the genre. With nice clean but unique almost pixar style of graphics.

* lot's of content with the DLC's that expand the campaign, with a bunch of secrets/optional content.

* Interesting cast of characters based on a group of fantasy Stereotype losers. Every character has a lot of personality.

* The battles are engaging, polished and well crafted. Lots of gear and builds to play around with. Steals smart elements from Xcom like games. (they have now added an option to speed up the enemy turns, which helps to remedy the complaints that it's too slow.)

* Leave the melodrama at the door, this is a comedic game that parodies fantasy tropes, for a change. A big plus in my eyes.

I see most of the time the game is criticised its for the humor, which is admittedly not for everyone. Alot of people say it's cringe, but I think those people need to get over themselves. In a world of games filled with angsty brooding teenagers and political drama. I found it a breath of fresh air that even gave me the occasional chuckle.

I like side scrolling beat em up's but this is not it sadly. Very weird unpolished feeling UI and control scheme. Graphics are okay but a bit generic feeling, but the problem is the combat feel, it just doesn't feel good to play. needs to add impact to the attacks, hitstop... something. Also feels like you should be able to block or parry.

Theres lot of hate for poe2 right now and alot of glazing for this game.
I just don't see it. Yes it's got a better loot progression system and crafting than poe, but that's it. But it's also not in EA.

It fails by every other metric. This feels like someone ported Grim dawn to the unity engine. The combat is weightless, and you are one shoting packs out the gate, campaign is far too easy even in season 2 to keep my attention. Yeah i understand some people like that, It's not for me, Ill go back to poe2
