I don't even like survival games and this is, by far, the most addictive game I've ever played...

Oh so much potential then the game deleted all my saves midway through my campaign. Apparently after an update the game removed all my saves because they were no longer compatible with the game. What Busch league BS is this? I love the franchise but this level of incompetence is just too much to overcome a negative review.

From a single player campaign perspective this is one hell of a story. Very well done and exceptional design. The Operations (coop PVE) has decent replayability. The grind is real but because you are better off doing so with friends it doesn't seem so bad. Multiplayer gets stale after a few days of play. It's not Modern Warfare level PVP and there's really little reason to play minus a few achievements you can earn. If I were guessing PvP was not given the same attention as the rest of the game.

Long story short, this game will give you 100+ hours of good playtime. Beyond that you will likely drop the game for something else while they push out seasonal updates. I'd imagine it will wind up much like Diablo 4 where people play for a few weeks then move on.

I honestly didn't think it was necessary to write a review for this game because it is so awesome! Everyone that plays it knows this. However, recently idiots on a different continent have decided to review bomb the game. Well, screw China. If they aren't cheating/hacking in a game to ruin it they are review bombing. lol

This is the only game that I've ever played that has kept it's player base through years of play. Don't let idiots ruin the game for others. Post your own positive review to offset the retardation.

I picked this game up after it was reviewed as part of the Upper Echelon's indie game review series. I have found that UE's likes and dislikes tend to go together so I took the chance and invested in this alpha, something I've learned not to do. However, instead of being screwed over I was pleasantly surprised to find the game to be fun and completely enthralling.

The learning curve is super steep. Don't get discouraged. Fight through the desire to take out your frustrations on your keyboard/mouse/controller. Try to survive in the vanilla game for a week then a month. See what it will take to keep electricity/water/food going in the long run. But most importantly, learn to fight the zomboids. Finding new strategies to fight them is half the fun. Resist the urge to watch videos to learn the easy ways. Nothing better than clearing a horde solo with nothing but good strategy.

Once you think you have it figured out make it interesting by checking out the mods. Lots of quality of life stuff to make the vanilla environment less tedious. The real fun is the scenario based mods. Who needs a campaign when the modding community can create 10!

Last, but not least, don't let the alpha stage of the game scare you away. It's not like Star Citizen, though the two have been alpha's for similar amounts of time. I've only had PZ crash on me once and that was because of a mod. Star Citizen will crash every 30 minutes by comparison.

It's fun solo, folks. But it's soooooo much better when you play with friends. It's a good buy at any price!

Updated Review: This game is still needlessly frustrating at times. But it is one of the most addictive games I've played in years.

For all you beginners, all I can say is work through the pain. Watch a youtube video or two on achieving success. Otherwise you'll end up like me, upset that the game is unforgiving from the beginning.

To make the most out of this game, hop into a sub with some friends. Better yet join a random crew that is willing to mentor and learn the game while having fun with others instead of just being upset by yourself. This game really does shine in multi-player.

Last but not least take your turn at building your own sub. It is cathartic. Half my time these days is just working on my own sub and testing it out. Amazing how time flies. It's like a tower defense game but underwater once you get it in your head that YOU get to control the design of your hull, defenses, weapons.

TLDR; Not quite ready for prime time due to how it punishes newbies but has lots of potential.

I want to love this game... I really do!

I love the genre and everything Bethesda has cranked out over the last several years. But I can't give a thumbs up for a game I can't play, period.

From day one this game was buggy, which is ok since all games have their initial bugs at release. But tons of people are still experiencing bugs identified nearly half a year ago. And I'm not talking about dead bodies endlessly spinning type bugs, I'm talking about the random crash to desktop bugs that are sooooooo frustrating. Who wants to play a game when half of your time is spent either saving the game (because you know it will crash) or restarting the game after a CTD?

If it were just me I'd probably not say anything, but there are thousands of people who are affected and like me are probably still waiting for a fix from Bethesda. Just do a google search for "fallout 4 crash to desktop" and you'll see what I mean.

I see that instead of fixing these critical bugs Bethesda has opted to release a DLC. Good call! Guess who won't be buying?

If you are on the fence about buying this game I'd say wait for a really good sale. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky few that won't experience the crashes.

MY GOD this game is addictive! I've owned it for just one day, or in Steam's eyes 12.9 hours of gameplay. Really easy to lose track of time with this game, put a wristwatch on or fear the wrath of your significant other...

When I first saw the game mechanics I really wasn't overwhemled with confidence. I thought Super Mario went EMO. But that was a misconception and a big one at that. The developer took so many good things from other games/genres and put just enough in this game to make it feel familiar and easy to play, almost casual. But the depth of the situation is ever present and always chalanging the player.

The only negative that I have come across is the lack of best path logic tied to the "Run to Exit" ability or in general. I lost Katia to a sniper unnecessarily that way.

Part of me REALLY wants a save feature so I can load a previous day to cheat. I'd like to see how good I can make the situation and avoid the bad. But I doubt I would like the game nearly as much if I could.

The real challange is pressing forward when times get tough and not starting a new game. I found myself starting several new games in the beginning, just to get a feel. Challange yourself to do the same otherwise you will never make it past the first week in-game.

I think this game deserves the Game of the Year award personally.
