Foolish Mortals is a traditional point and click adventure game in almost every sense of the word.
The creators are obviously big fans of Broken Sword, and wear their inspirations on their sleeve.

In many ways playing Foolish Mortals felt like the first time I played Broken Sword 1 and 2. It is the closest I've gotten to that more classic AG feel in a long, long time. That does also come with puzzles that could end up becoming as infamous as the goat or cat mustache. There are puzzles I cannot fathom how you solve without the (very good) hint system, and the protag's walking speed can be described as either "slow as molasses" or "sauntering jog".
There's also some map maneuvering that's more focused on looking pretty than being any kind of player friendly (that vertical scroll, gah!).

Having said that I absolutely loved it. I could not stop playing, experiencing every single dialogue, and investigating the story. I actually did enjoy the 3rd chapter pulling a "lets do it all again!" now that we knew so much more about it, and I just adored the voices!

Adventure games have gotten better and better at their voice cast since the infamous years of gems like Keepsake, but this might be one of the best voice casts I've ever heard in a game, with the weakest link being a literal child.

In a time of more and more AI voices in indie games this kind of focus on good acting is such a treat. Add to that the great jazz number song and good sound effects and the sound image of this game is a very immersive and enjoyable experience. I really just missed more music, which is so, so rare for me to say.

I had some issues with crashes after long play sessions, but the auto save system never put me that far back, and I never experienced any other gameplay issues.

Any fans of Broken Sword, Monkey Island or Wadjet Eye games should give this one a try. The slow running speed is worth it, I promise.
