The "mandatory account linking update" that was poised for May has now been completely abandoned, at least by the news I have read, and now I can actually say this game is contender for GOTY. Sony will always suck, and they need to keep their greedy, stubby little hands out of everything. That said, Arrowhead deserve no such scorning and as of this writing, I am eagerly eating breakfast to prepare the spreading of democracy!

Hopefully in the future, Arrowhead will partner with a company like Microsoft for releases instead of scumbag Sony. But hey, Arrowhead deserves some awards for this masterpiece, It quite literally is and always will be (so long as Sony GTFO of all future plans) my favourite game, surpassing a decade of Halo, 5 years of Splinter Cell, and many other games.

If you are wondering if its worth buying, I assure you. It is THE game

I like this game quite a bit. As someone who plays other BR genre games like Apex, Fortnite, and a very little bit of PUBG, the idea of welcoming a VR BR game was exciting. I say was because after getting into the game I immediately ran into issues with the game mechanics/settings.

Gameplay was smooth, a few frame drops or stutters here and there but if youve played The Forest VR, even Arizona sunshine or WDSS, this game has a similar frame rate, with drops or stutters only when a ton of things is happening in your view at once.

The following pertains mainly to VALVE INDEX CONTROLLERS and not the standard Vive Wands/Quest Controllers

Mechanics need some work. A lot of the weapon mechanics feature a pulsing neon glow on the functions to follow: ie, pulsing neon clip/shells hover beside or under the gun instructing you to *glide* your hand over them toward the gun. This is a massive immersion break for me, you dont actually handle any of your clips/mags/shells, they all hover around your gun when you need to reload. Adding to this is that there isnt actually an animation or anything, it just...clips into the gun and disappears? Cocking is the same, a pulsing neon glow over the bolt or slide, offering an animation but from what Ive seen, almost everyone simply *clicks* the bolt or pump and it automatically ♥♥♥♥♥/loads the bolt. interesting mechanics, and i can see the reason they did this was to make the flow of combat easier, but it just feels clunky and misses half the time making reloading during combat the biggest battle youll face other than opponents, which are a majority pros who grind the game, or bots that you play with that have auto aim.

The inventory mechanic: now this is something else entirely for a VR game. If youve played Pavlov this will be familiar to you, but frustrating at best. Another mechanic that i can see was chose for the VR BR attempt, and works here and there, however the accuracy is a joke, being unable to rearrange inventory positioning doesnt exist unless you do the good ol "drop this thing thats slotted here and this thing you WANT to be slotted here and pick up the thing you want first and the other thing you want second." Accessing your inventory is a pain, swapping to a different weapon is a pain. I may have a high expectation/bias for inventory management due to playing Pavlov, but I do believe that if you are playing a VR game that features guns AT ALL, they should be able to store a rifle/shotgun on your back, maybe 2 if the backpack system has a holster on each side of it, and 2 small arms weapons on your side. this way you can visibly see where your weapons are, which weapons you have, and can definitively grab whatever weapon you are reaching for.
Dont even ask me on the "Point with your hand, click the trigger to lob the nade" mechanic. Get out of here. this is VR, not Desktop FPS shooters like Halo, CoD, Apex. You wanna throw a grenade? Throw the damn grenade.
Oh yeah, sniping is garbage, you look through the scope and it blacks out all view except for a "sniper reticle" in your FOV to "replicate" looking through a scope. Thats not replicating anything unless I'm the infamous "One-eyed-Sniper" who lost his eye from itching his retina with a .50 cal shell, like come on, do I have to close/cover my other eye when sniping? As someone who does snipe in other VR games and uses both eyes for situational awareness while ADSing, I can not understand in any respect why sniping is even in this game based solely on the ADS scope.

So far this is not "Game Breaking" things, just variations in mechanics that I disagree with.

The only "Game Breaking" issue I found was that the index controllers are NOT optimized for this game in any regard.
Manual reloading makes me worry ill break my joystick on the controller from how frequently id be manually reloading. In the same instance, reloading any weapon with Index controllers will have you smacking the controllers together, all the time, and with enough repetitive forced collisions to make me worry about the longevity of my Index controllers.
There was also a MAJOR issue for me where the controller position was dramatically off centre compared to in-game position. Ex. Holding the gun with one or both hands, point forward naturally, the fun would be pointing upwards by 10-20 degrees or so, with the only method of correction to "tilt the base of the trigger finger hand" down against the incorrect offset, resulting on the "grip hand" (Pump on a shotty) being placed normally, how youd expect, but the trigger hand behind it, pointing below it. Yes, you have the visual correct and yes I looked for some rotation offset settings. To my horror, the only offset options were for the fluid movement of the grip hand, or for the trigger hand to have more weight to its direction. basically making either the grip hand or the trigger hand be the "dominant" directive to where you point.
Tried 3 rounds, even with adjusted settings, but the pain was to the point where i had to literally stop laying vr for an hour because of how much my wrist hurt from playing for 10-15 minutes.

The final nail in the coffin was the dev support.

I didnt want to give up on the game, but after trying to contact the devs about maybe making an offset correction setting or adjustment bar for default controller rotation, i discovered from the discord users themselves that the devs do NOT actually respond to requests for help, and are notoriously known to have a massive disconnect with their fans/community members. Tried sending an email (the ONLY way to get in touch with the devs? Even though they have discord? Wth?) after trying the game out on the weekend of the May14th with an email requesting help on the 17th. Still have not had a reply, and after asking discord members about it, found out they also only reply to people who HARASS them (one user specified that he had sent around several emails over the course of a month and finally got a reply back after 2 months).
After finding out this info, I refunded the game, left a thank you and hope for the best on their discord and promptly left the group.

TL:DR

In its current state, I can not in good faith recommend this game to anyone. There are cool movement concepts like gliding, climbing walls, and getting power ups and items like your usual juiced BR, but the clunky gun controls, inventory mechanics, lack of controller support settings and the disconnect between devs and community take any and all joy out of the game. As well, for all the bugs and issues, id give this game a $9.99 price tag, not $33.99. To compare, The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, a Critically acclaimed VR game with "Similar" mechanics is $36.39

If the devs work on better communication and update the game breaking issues addressed above "mechanics can be lived with, broken wrists cant" I will change this to a neutral recommendation. but currently, look else where yall.
6/10
6 Because the game is awesome in every idea, cool concepts, and a good mix of appropriate gameplay elements.
6 Because the execution resembles an execution from the medieval days; "Its sick, so put it down"

This Game is the culmination of what would be, the flatout series, the burnout series and those racing sims youd put a quarter into at the arcade
Many times it can feel faster than what youd imagine from a game offering A Class cars tops, and the tuning system, while not incredibly broken down, still does offer some race-to-race differences in handling and performance. Content is released frequently to what I have seen and if you are a car enthusiast, you can get the seasons passes to get all cars currently available post launch. Other things you can buy with in game credits earned from racing and tournaments, but I havent even touched that.
Ive been strictly playing the online multiplayer because.....AI cant compare to the chaos of 24 human drivers on a small compact track, some in buses, industrial lawnmowers, a sofa car (A literal sofa with wheels on it), regular cars, offroad buggies, trucks. At this point I wouldnt be surprised if a actual monster truck got into the game somehow.

There is one thing to watch for if you are planning to get this game for the online and that is the online community. While helpful, supportive, joking and actually quite fun people to talk to, this is a racing game with integrated destruction, (Wreck is in the name of the game) you WILL be in a race with people who will have the attitude of a 300 year old troll under a bridge for 400 years. There will be slurs, insults, straight up demeaning comments among other things that will make you want to uninstall forever. Bear with em, most people actually band together and vote kick these people out of the lobby,

Be ready for buses on any race though, Buses are like religion in this game, either with em, or against em.
