Aw, dang it!

Clover pit is a fascinating game, not because it's unique, but because it isn't! there's another roguelike slot machine gambling game that's very similar to it called Luck Be A Lady. I never played it myself, mainly because i don't think the vibe melded with me all that much, but this game... has something in it that sets it apart that i can't quite explain. a "je ne sais quoi", if you will.

Maybe it's the Artstyle? Maybe it's its presentation and overall vibe. regardless, this game has "The Sauce" that so many games seem to lack, and i appreciate it all the more for it.

If you liked balatro, this game is for you. The thrill of getting a big combo will keep you hooked on this game (just like a real slot machine...). it's addicting and fun, what more could you possibly ask for? There's new combos and things to discover in every run. this'll easily consume a lot of your time... if only it also had a mobile port of some kind... then i'd play it in the toilet too, haha!

I've just beaten OFF, it only took me 7 hours

(NOTE: i am writing this review at the time where 4/7 chapters of the game are done. i will probably update this review as new chapters release and as the game reaches completion)

(this review is going to sound extremely corny and i don't give a ♥♥♥♥, these are my most sincere thoughts on this game)

this is, without exaggeration, possibly the greatest videogame of this generation, and it's only halfway finished. we will look back on DELTARUNE 10, 15 years from now and contemplate it's sheer impact on not just the indie scene, but in video games as a whole. DELTARUNE comes out at the time where gen-z is just in the peak of it's formative years, and when many of it's creatively and artistically inclined individuals are beginning to enter the wider gaming industry (mainly in low-level positions). I'm going to predict that in a few years time we'll begin to see more games similar in DELTARUNE's style as these individuals begin to reach positions of creative authority within the gaming space and begin to create games of their own.

and when we begin to ask these people "what influenced you to create your magnum opus?", i expect many of them to directly name this game as their main inspiration.

but why do i think this way?

DELTARUNE is a fantastic example of videogame storytelling as art. it is a story of not just Free Will, Escapism and Self Determination, it is also an experience. if you play this game long after it's finished, you will only experience half of the joy that this game had to offer. the speculation, the community interaction and participation is also a fundamental part of enjoying DELTARUNE. there's a reason why it has been released in chapters, instead of as a whole product.

However, it's gameplay is also central to the storytelling it provides. There is a fundamental distinction in DELTARUNE between *Protagonist* and *Player* (if you've played OneShot before, you know what i mean), and there exists metacomentary on the nature of free will not just on You controlling the Protagonist, but also in the nature of video games and their linearity, and how they only have a set number of endings no matter what you do (in this game's case, apparently only one ending...?)

The characters present in this game are funny, loveable and unforgettable. By the time you're done, you'll certainly have your own favorites as well (and god help you if you have a crush on them, i know i need it). If you've played UNDERTALE before, you'll know that Toby Fox excels at character writing. And if you need a reference point, they are very similar in nature to those you'd find in other RPGmaker games or other quirky indie titles (such as, again, OneShot).

I wholly reccomend DELTARUNE. if you haven't played it yet, and are completly blind to it, please play it. it is a compltely unforgettable experience that you can only experience once. It is one of the very few titles where i can confidently give a 10/10 rating to. If you found UNDERTALE to be a masterpiece, you'll consider DELTARUNE one as well.
