You are filled with DETERMINATION.

I'll be honest. I have purposefully put off this game for 10 years. I remember buying it in high school and a myriad of other things happening in my life that prompted me to... well... not want to play it. I had a very abusive relationship where my ex would rave about the game and implore me to play it, I've had school bullies hum the songs from this game, I've had trauma associated with it in all the dumb-founded ways one could imagine. Yeah yeah "Don't let bad memories hold you back"... it's not that easy, and anyone who has suffered what I have knows that very well, so finally installing this game required a lot of mental fortitute.

I finally decided to play it, after encouragement from friends, my therapist, and myself, to not hold onto these painful memories of a video game I've never even played before, and more-or-less ingested via osmosis on the internet. With the popularity of DELTARUNE Chapter 4 hitting like a terror attack on the gaming industry, I knew I was going to enjoy these games from the get-go, but was I ready to attach such a game into my life, and have it become a part of myself?

I filled myself with determination, and set forth...

UNDERTALE in its purity, is one of the most beautiful stories in the world. Not just in video games, but in all mediums of art. I made brand new friends that were waiting here for me all along, here to cheer me on in my quest, and to love me forwards. All of the characters in this game are so lovable, and are so full of personality, love, and substance. While the joke has been done to death of how UNDERTALE is a "Earthbound-inspired-metacommentary-about-video-games", this title defined new methods of telling stories, combining the best of JRPGs, Horror .EXE games, and all corners of creativity to create a title that is master craft and stands the test of time.

Clocking in at roughly 10-12 hours your first run, it's not a very long journey, but it's impact is astounding, and I know the friends I made along the way will still be here to cheer me on. A game's playtime is trivial to the emotional impact it can dish out, and with how meme culture and the fanbase has gone, its insane how short of a game has impacted millions in such a short time. I am thankful to have been on this journey and experience this beautiful tale.

To potential buyers: While RPGs may not be your cup of tea, this is still a beautiful game to play, and is going on my list of "Games you must play". Don't grab UNDERTALE because you love RPGs, grab UNDERTALE because you love being alive, and to feel.

and lastly, thank you to all my new found friends I made during my fall in the underground.

Take Responsibility

A very confusing game to look at on the store page, one may be confused to see a small horror game about... mouthwash? The game doesn't explain much of what's going on from the cover, and one may push it aside for other titles that wear their titles more proudly.

In reality, I encountered a very beautiful story.

I have recently been going through a very tough moment in my life, and like some others, I tend to "stress buy" things, and this game was one of them, knowing absolutely nothing going in. I only heard murmurs among my fellow game designers I graduated with about such a title and I decided to play the entire game in a single sitting, still a tad emotionally drained from the events of my life and my relationship with others.
Mouthwashing is a story about responsibility, and the effects solidarity and isolation can really take on the human mind. I fell in love with the characters, and their ambitions, but even early on you can see them fall apart at the seams, with you being the sole caretaker of their troubles. Everything is your responsibility, and you must take responsibility for better, or for worse.

This game made me cry, and made me realize how much trauma can really dictate human actions. I wish I could apologize to the crew. Sometimes attempts to make things better, only make things worse, and I feel everyone who has had tough moments in their life relate to this fact. People such as myself struggle to keep everything afloat, and simply just wish for everything to be better, yet at times... you can't. This game honestly showed that experiences such as mine, aren't mine alone.

I want to give a powerful shoutout to the development team of this title for making me honestly moved by such a story and gameplay. You did an amazing job crafting an experience, and it has honestly been on honor as a fellow game designer myself to see people from such humble, small beginnings craft something this moving.

Would I recommend Mouthwashing? Yes. Yes I would. This has been one of my favorite "fresh" stories to come out this past year, and really goes to show how much the industry has changed from simple 2D side scrollers, to moving, beautiful art.

Please Hold!

Who doesn't love working in a call center, being frustrated by callers not understanding their problems? I've heard of the classic IT problems of "Have you tried turning it off and on again?". Now we get to the level of "Did you leave out a bowl of milk every night?".

Home Safety Hotline isn't a necessarily scary game, but does a great job of making you feel immersed, and quite on edge, and is quite a fun little joyride for 2 hours of playtime. There's mixture of paranormal, occult, and everyday problems that you receive calls about that really keep you on your toes.

My biggest plus is the amount of passion the creator has. You can tell love was put into the artwork, descriptions, and gameplay of this, and it was a joy to not only play such a fun title, but to help fund whatever future projects he may have.

Overall, if 15$ is scary to you, pick it up on sale, but this game is truly a treat, and full of love and passion.

Let The Obsession Begin...

DOOM, originally releasing in 1993, quickly became a staple in everyone's library, and paved the way of what would be "The First Person Shooter". Nothing is more classic than shooting demons in the hallways of a base on Mars. DOOM is always a fun experience, and it lets you appreciate the simpler times of video games, and it goes to show how far technology has really gone in the past several decades. I recommend everyone spend some time in DOOM to appreciate how far gaming has evolved, even if it's not directly your cup of tea.

The best part of DOOM? It's community.
To this day, new content is being made for this exciting game, from maps, enemies, weapons, even flat out conversions to make it play completely different.

With how easy tools like Slade3 and UltimateDoomBuilder are, making your own content for DOOM, or even fine-tuning your own gaming experience, is as simple as cooking eggs in the morning. Mix a map you want, a gameplay mod, and a enemy pack, and you have yourselves a whole new game. Thousands upon thousands of mods exist, and creating a game made just for YOU, has never been easier.

While I prefer GZDoom and it's siblings, this is a great solution for those not tech-savvy enough to get a Source Port working or use Port Forwarding. This also has a super simple cooperative solution with cross-play, so all your friends who don't have a gaming PC can join along. DOOM is as classic as rhubarb pie, and should be in everyone's library of titles.

If you want to see great DOOM wads and gameplay, go check out @DavidXNewton, while I'm not associated with him, he hosts RAMP, a mapping jam/competition every June. Go check out what the amazing community has in store!

A small bite sized survival horror game for those who love Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Not entirely long, but it still has tons of repeatability in terms of Ranks, Secrets, and Additional optional unlocks.

The main charm is the art style, as the PS1 style effects and soundtrack are amazing. This was a great game to play late at night, even if it's not REALLY that scary, yet it does have some good moments.

If you enjoy any of those games above, and a fresh take on them with a lot of charm and love, pick this up

The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed...

Persona 3 has always had an amazing place in my heart. It's one of the most influential games in my life, and I can link it to my own creative process, writing, and tastes. It's one of the most beautiful stories and tales about friendship, death, and strength in any media.

RELOAD is a fresh repackaging of the original experience. That's not bad, it's actually very good! It twists expectations of experienced veterans like myself, while making the daunting task of Persona 3 welcoming to newcomers. All the visuals, audio, voice acting, and combat is a visceral, and surreal as ever before. The characters feel more alive and real, with their struggles just as vivid.

If you've never played a Persona title, here's where to start. This is the height of the entire franchise, and should be a staple in "Greatest Games of All Time". It will always be in my top 5 games, and is why everyone should attempt to play it, anime fan or not.

It was a massive undertaking. Make the greatest action game, *again*. Resident Evil 4 is a very important game historically in the action and horror genres, and to redo all that again without it being stale is probably the hardest challenge I, a game designer, can think of.

I'm actually surprised to say this but I think this game does the game even more justice. It reminded me of all the memories I had of the original, while giving it a fresh coat of paint and some air freshners. I felt like I was 6 years old again, playing it for the first time all over again.

While some parts I could argue are better than the OG, or worse than the OG, but I hold these games at two seperate lengths, and won't do a "you should play the OG instead" or "play the remake, no point to play the OG". I think it's important to play both from a historical standpoint, and let them stand on their own merits as games.

That being said, holy crap is this amazing. I have been craving a game like this for what felt like years, like tasting your mom's cooking after long years of being away. I cannot recommend it more. Please enjoy the beauty of this game.

Now we just need Resident Evil 5 Remake, where I can do it all over again, with a buddy this time.

Non-alcoholic Persona 3...

Persona 3 is my favorite game. OF ALL TIME. I love the game to death. The story, the characters, gameplay. EVERYTHING

I hope the port gets updates and gets better. at the moment its a very... "watered down" experience. Yeah it's Persona 3, but you're better off playing FES if you want the true masterpiece of a game this is.

For those of you on Steam, this is whatcha gotta deal with.

Portable waters down the Persona 3 experience to it's bare minimums, removing the anime cutscenes for visual novel style interactions, removing exploration of Iwatodai for overhead images. While yes, this is a faster experience, still gives the story and gameplay I love and adore, it's through a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI upscaled filter.

Why is this review positive then?
To show I still love this game, I still love the experience I have at Gekkoukan High, and I give this warning to all buyers. GO PLAY FES FIRST, then pick this up. Trust me, it'll make you feel better. Go experience my favorite game of all time.
