Personally, spending $20 on this game was worth it. When I played dark souls for the first time, online functionality was botched and there were not a lot of players. The framerate was garbage. I had to install mods just to play the game properly. This time, there was an active playerbase and it was very fun and engaging. Online works. The game runs smoothly and looks nice.

Objectively, as someone who already owns dark souls on PC, the remaster is not worth $20. It essentially brings little to no changes compared to what mods provided before. With the exception of increased online player count. This is the problem with the remaster, and why so many people dislike it.

However, Dark Souls is still a fantastic game. If you have never played it before, I highly recommend picking this up.

In the end, whether or not this game is worth it is up to you. There is still plenty of fun to be had, even if you owned the original. For me, I was excited for the remaster for the sole reason of playing the game again with an active playerbase. For new players, the remaster is a great chance to dive into one of the most influential games of our time. If you are one of those new players, give it a shot. You might fall in love with it.
