Splitgate arena shooter is portal meets halo in a sci-fi sports setting with a minimal aesthetic, with the weapon taste of DOOM multiplayer, sadly with a Wolfenstein map design that cant seem to couple well with the portal mechanics.

As the game presents itself with a pretty good inviting hand to newer players, it can suck the motivation out, if you attempt to play this game with a CoD approach, as it has an odd learning curve that will, no doubt, deter new players from entering the scene. it can be easy to learn especially for gamepad players if you are experienced in adjusting to new environments and a keen sense of map memory, which might appeal to quake players to a vicarious limit. This means that there is not much freedom in the map to move around in and with the mid par portal mechanics it can be extremely frustrating to navigate the map in the first place.

Combat is quite versatile and easily understandable as it gives the players a much needed hand in ground options, cover flanking, anti air, and leveling. you have a jetpack, grenades, and melee, all of which are a staple to most arena fps games.

Where the complaints you see are mainly from, are the portal workings and they are nowhere near as precise as they should be. you will constantly fall out or not enter properly due to the collision checking that never works in a proper favor. aesthetic also seems to be an issue as there is no color customization leaving your character to look quite silly with non matching parts and generally being hard to differentiate yourself from other players. epics are disappointing as they are just recolors and not worth the glamour they make themselves out to be.

The game does have it loot boxes but I can honestly say that they are not as demanding or as desirable as most other games have made them to be.

this does get a soft yes from me.

Final score: 6.95/10

What can be done to improve this game
-working on map freedom will have to be one
-the portals are not as well polished as they should be and will have to be investigated to make them more pace friendly
-perhaps some variation in the armor and an implemented color choice
-it should never be said that the loot boxes are a detriment to the games enjoyment but perhaps make the epics seem more worth their time being in this game

Early Access Review
This game honestly does not control well and requires way too much knowledge beforehand when you want to get right into this game.

As it stands, it alienates newcomers and tends to only be a game thats only viable for veterans to play leaving any kind of casual audience in the dark. its main selliung point should'vr been its new characters but they force you to use the smash-likes to start out leaving little gameplay options.

aesthetically its like smash meets overwatch leaving some rather unappealing visuals and some extremely clumsy feeling mechanics with character animations that look as though they were all taken from an old disccarded blizzard concept. there isn't too much to learn on this game other than the fact that its not visually pleasing, mediocre lore and story, muddy controls, and crappy animations.

Final score: 4/10

what can be done to improve this game:
-possibly more well thought out story other than portals across the universe
-mechanics that make it different from its smash roots
-a unique look for visuals
-no crappy propgrammed lag input. (6 frame lag is put there on purpose, and the dev's attempt to justify this by saying it trains offline players for online. Street Fighter Five did that and look how that turned out.)
