It's going great so far. Even Metro 2033's running smooth at 1080 so I can't complain. And Fraps seems to be able to record games at a steady FPS, so I might even get into that some day. Can't thank you enough for all the help. As soon my bank account contains more than 2 candy wrappers and a moth, a Steam gift may just arrive.
