Early Access Review
Simple concept but really well executed. Progression was slow but was corrected quickly by the dev. Now, in a few runs, you can already see new heroes, new units, gain more roads for your kingdom. After 12h, I've barely seen anything of the game it seems but I'm having fun trying out different strategies already. No bugs (or at least none I could see). It's graphically coherent, beautiful pixel art. Honestly, one great indie game.

I created a random character. He was fragile and had for only strength disintegration, an explosion centred on yourself. Died a lot, managed to survive eventually and he's now a super explosive mutant.

I created another character, lots of ego, I can scam any merchant and get anything from them. Encountered a massive troll named Jotun, Who Parts Limbs. Killed me a few times. Used proselytise and got him to be my pet. He spawns an army of trolls. And I found some cloning liquid, now I have two Jotuns. They, and their armies, rampage everything for me.

I created a True Kin tinkerer to enjoy cybernetics and technologies. I crafted myself a nice electric hammer that shreds everything. Got sick, lost my tongue, couldn't talk anymore. Had to find a way to grow it back to be able to do quests again.

Tbh, it's one of these rare games that you start playing after work, just enjoy the randomly generated content, then you realise it's 3am and you have to go back to real life again. I can't even explain what's so enticing about this game, all the systems, the surprises, the mechanics, it's just so good. And the writing is top notch, the world building is top notch, the graphics are actually good, just play it already!

An overall great CRPG, a typical Owlcat games with loads of systems, side stories, and skill depth. I've done a single campaign as a dogmatic guy (For the Emperor!) so far but I'm pretty sure I'll make another campaign as an heretic when the next DLC comes out. Abelard, pls provide my review.

The pros:
- A great universe: as a neophyte of the Warhammer 40K universe, I really appreciated the encyclopedia and notes provided to help me better understand the context of characters and events. The universe is really dark and gothic in every aspect of it. Factions are crazy, companions are crazy, you can be the biggest d*** the universe has ever seen, it's great.
- Well written dialogue and stories: like other Owlcat games, the stories and great, the characters are fun, not everyone is a good guy. If anything, no one is a good guy actually haha. Your choices have consequences, they can influence the behaviours of your companions, the ending of some stories, the way people interact with you, etc. It's really well done.
- A complex but rewarding skill system: I played the game in daring difficulty (no bonus for my guys, no malus for the enemies) and found the game to be a bit easy tbh, but probably because I made good builds for my companions. I played as a nobleman officer incapable of shooting himself and I must say, it was utterly broken. The second half of the game, I won every single combat from the very first turn of my main guy. BUT it was all possible because of amazing synergies between skills within the same class, skills between classes, and skills and equipment. If you take the time to read all of the active and passive skills your characters can get, you'll find something really strong in every class.
- Amazing soundtrack: The soundtrack is simply awesome. The atmosphere it builds is great. Oh the sweet organ of the astropathic choir! Honestly, I added many of the theme songs to my playlists.

The cons (with some constructive criticism):
- Too many loading screens: The game has really a lot of loading screens. I feel like this could be improved by adding more "shortcuts", like an easier way to return to your vessel (brigde, stellar system, or the expanse) to prevent having to do 2 or 3 loading screens in a row.
- Some visibility issues: Sometimes, the decor prevents you from seeing what's going on. The thing that makes decor/walls/objects disappear doesn't seem to always work, so sometimes you end in corridors with only 2 camera angles enabling seeing anything.
- The colony management isn't super developed: I understand this is not a management game but I feel like the colony management could provide a bit more gameplay. You build projects and have some events, which is fine, and it provides some bonuses by either producing consumables, providing a few equipment pieces and a few special passive bonuses. But overall, I got stuck on some projects because I didn't know you'd need a lot more complacency for further development (typically, I did every project in act 2 and that prevented the completion of projects in act 4 which was a bit disappointing).
- Still a few bugs, including in quests: I got this stupid lever quest on the bridge that I could never finish. And sometimes you get some stupid bugs such as your retinue portraits disappearing (save and reload fixes the issue). Overall the experience was good, it just has a few bugs here and there.

So overall for me, I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed talking to my companions and doing their quests. I enjoyed the various quests and the choices that you have to make. I really enjoyed the depth of the skill system. And overall, I just wanted more of it. So it's an easy 9/10 for me.

Good old Diablo 1 vibe. Good gameplay and balance. Rewarding loop in terms of progression. Just a fun game.

What's not to like? It has the appeal of an old school Diablo 2 and the complexity of a Path of Exile. It seems a lot simpler than PoE but its spell mastery trees, passive trees, and crafting systems make this a real masterpiece. The endgame is actually interesting and makes you yearn for better loot!
Would highly recommend to any hack'n'slash fan.

Big bonus: it runs smoothly with high graphics on my more than 10 years old potato!
