Early Access Review
The Forest 1.5. I understand it is early access so it is bound to have problems but there are quite a lot of them to list.
First off and biggest one; bigger island does not mean better. It is just a big empty world with not much to do from your point to your destination other than a few resource. It makes going anywhere a chore and quickly enough you will start just running past random encounter cause the travel time already takes way to long to go anywhere.
Could really do with a quick select hud bar,/hotkeys I know quite a few of the items you select by going into the options control but it is far easier if you where just able to select any time to a quick select hud, there is a reason why so many games use it as the utility is so useful especially when it a situation where you don't got time to be digging in your backpack in the middle of combat. There is also another way it tries to do this by selecting what items appear on the front of your backpack and you can pull it up and select that way but once again, this is too slow and too clunky to do in the middle of combat. I need this item here and now, not trying to fuddle with my pockets.
Being hit in animations that you cannot cancel. Getting up, picking up your backpack, opening your backpack, etc, etc. Animation that take too long and when you have an enemy around you, they are well going to be take advantage of that especially in the getting up animation if your're playing multiplayer, you will find yourself going down multiple times before you get a chance to do anything as you character sluggishly gets back on their feet. Once again, there is a reason why so many other game getting up animation so quickly as it is very cheap to be knocked back down when you can even move.
Framerate, a lot of dip in the frames especially when winter comes, can lead to quite a lot of bad situation when it chugs right in the middle of combat.
The game is almost a copy and paste from the previous; the items of interest are just at the end of each cave. You can pretty much run past a lot of encounter. I was playing on hard so the enemies would rip right through armor and health which pretty much discourage getting into combat as I only come out at a lost for doing so. Spending precious meds, armor pieces, batteries, etc only to get 1 piece of mutant armor in return make it not worth my time. Especially that regardless if the abomination was a higher or lower tier of difficulty to take down you will get 1 piece regardless, at least give more to compensate for taking out the more tankier monster that just took away half the pieces I was wearing and trying to fight cautiously.
You are able to command the guy from your team who does simple tasks for you but no way to command the half abomination girl. Being unable to command her as while she can be great for combat when given a gun also makes her unreliable to be where I need her when I need her especially with a island so irritatingly huge. She'll just run off and do whatever she wants whenever so in the time she follows it is great but the times she just leave for one reason or another then I just lost one the major offenses of the group.
There is stats on the weapons but no way to upgrade them like the first to which while it was through very very small increments in the first, least they were getting better as you dotted your axe with 30 teeth as silly as it is you are making progression. The progression in this game same to be strength that you steadily gain from your activities. Though it is such a small footnote on the bottom right that I gotten stronger that I hardly notice. Also nothing seem to be dying faster as each day new enemies with more health and armor keep showing up.
Overall the problem just makes the game right now a slow slog to get through and though I said 1.5 in the beginning, this might as well be more like a 0.5. You are far better off playing The Forest that this sequel. It has it's own problems of course but just about all my complaint here are not an issue there. Also the abominations are just better. Sure I haven't seen them all yes for this game but nothing that quite hit me yet like in the first. The only thing I can say they did right was that gun are actually useful now unlike in the first how it is a chore to get one and turns out to be a chore to get and far inferior to the bow.

If I had to summarize this game in one word it would be "Slow".

The game just feels so slow which is not what I should be feeling in a racing game. Car customization and very limiting, there is a good amount of character to pick from but to compare it to it's competitors like Mario and Crash they have way more choices. The team base concept of the race while unique is aggravating for the most part. If you A.I team are just being garbage in a race or run into a stream of bad luck you will lose even if you came in first because they came in a much lower place bringing down your total. The only way to get faster is by collecting rings but you lose all of them if you get hit or crash once which while you can dodge almost everything if your opponent get the ability to put a bunch of towering rock pillars in your way, your chances of weaving through them is slim to none. Oh and boosting is a slog as well, the boost feels like you had gain perhaps a 10% speed boost for half a second compare once more to Mario where you customize a car all about having long streams of boosts or Crash's boost reserve system to which anyone with some practice can stay boosted the entire race giving you a high sense of speed.
