Terrible pacing, the story is absolutely abysmal that I had to play it with voices muted just to make it through because the lines were so terrible/annoying.

The gameplay is decent enough and the DLC's are actually a lot of fun to the point where I'd even skip the main game and just play the DLCs.

Had a lot of fun with this one!

Realized I should've left a review a lot earlier.

Beat all the levels on all difficulties and even got to get some mileage out of the coop too :)

Ask community manager Kaminsky.

Edit: Nice, community manager was let go. Wasn't his first controversy, so it was an avoidable issue but appreciated nonetheless.

Fun card Roguelike that you can co-op with friends!

Lots of options for deck building which I really enjoy. Crafting a build and then tweaking it as runs fail and succeed.

Has difficulty modifiers to increase the challenge and I've recently returned to it to enjoy the Singularity mode they added a bit ago which allows for only one copy of each card which encourages more card diversity than in the main game. The main game allows duplicate cards which is a fun power fantasy when you get many copies of your favourites.

I've got all A20H clears in Slay The Spire and this has been one of my favourite ways to fill the Spire shaped hole in my heart.

Early Access Review
Insanely addictive and a great multi-tasker while you catch up on your daily internet.

Finally got 120/120 unlocks so I'm set free from this addiction... for now at least.

+ The setting is really interesting and a big plus

Unfortunately that's my only real positive. I only played the campaign so all of my experience is with that. I'm no stranger to RTS games and leisurely beat Starcraft 2 on Brutal so I figured I'd tackle Hard difficulty in the campaign. For the first three missions or so this was okay and some decent micro would leave the AI out manoeuvred. But once base building and macro play was introduced, the game became a real slog.

The AI pumps out an unbelievable amount of units, a lot of them being spawned in (sometimes right on top of you if you're in their base) and this is what made progressing very tedious. There's a lot of emphasis and power on unit rank and the AI's units will be Rank 1 which obliterates your green fresh spawns. This means you really need to rough up your troops a bit before you even think about mounting a proper attack.

There's a low unit cap (I only had 76 to work with) and with each unit taking up around 3-4 supply, you're only really left with a handful to work with. With the amount of units thrown at you, you barely have enough units for a sturdy defence let alone an attack and forbid your attack squad is intercepted by theirs so you're now dealing with their defence and offence resulting in your attack squad getting wiped and you needing to turtle all over again.

Because of the low unit cap, infantry is somewhat obsolete with it being way more efficient to just stack mechanized units. Infantry require cover to be effective and with the AI's troops rushing your cover anyway or destroying it through their use of overwhelming mechs; your only real option is to skip straight to the highest tier mech you can afford and using that to defend until you have 5 of them to push for the win.

So, unless I've just been playing the game wrong, it's a slow tedious path to victory without much room for nuance.

I only finished the first campaign but I think it might be all I can stomach until I find a friend or two to play coop with (which is cool that that's an option).

Fun Metroidvania with an interesting theme that carries it, has a nice bunch of secrets that were fun to find and the bosses weren't all too difficult. The dash felt a little clunky but you're strong enough with upgrades that it's not enough to hold you back.

- Has some really difficult jumping/platforming sections that I failed a few times as a veteran.
