The Three Kingdoms DLC is a nice breath of fresh air for Age of Empires II. It’s kind of amazing that this game is still going strong after all these years, and it’s great to see the devs still adding new content. New factions, new mechanics, new scenarios there’s a lot here to dig into, and it definitely keeps things interesting in my opinion. If you’re into the 2013 edition and all its rough edges, it’s still there. Three Kingdoms just adds more stuff for people who want something new, which feels like the right move for a game with a large and growing community, it isn't the same smaller - more nische game that it was.

Now, the hero units are... a bit weird. They can feel a little out of place. But let’s be honest Age of Empires has always had its quirks, especially recently. I mean, the Centurion and the Coustillier aren’t exactly "normal units" either, and we’ve learned to like them. So, in that sense, the heroes kind of fit in. I do hope they only stick to these new civs. So we can have the interesting dynamic of some civs being entirely different, i.e the group of Mesoamerican civs..

It is the best strategy game, no other game that has been made or will be made will be able to beat the things that makes Age Of Empires II so good. From the perfect roster of civilizations, all of which share the most important features but with some interesting factors that differs to promote replayability and allows you to pick-and-choose among the available civilizations. The depth of each match allows this game to in my opinion beat any other strategy game out there, Civilization is a very shallow experience in relation to the hours of medieval onslaught you can experience in here. Overall, i would recommend this game to literally anyone thats even remotely interested in history or strategy games.
