I feel very conflicted after playing this game. I did not enjoy the demo, when it was released. I did not feel like there was any heart given to the licence and the gameplay felt boring, if I am honest.
After playing this all the way through, I can't say that I hate the game. There is a certain trashy charm to what the devs have done and while there are a lot of issues with how the game plays, there are elements that make this worth the time.
There is some humour as you progress and the developers clearly have some passion for the franchise and horror movies in general.
This is, however, a bit of a slog to play. The gameplay feels very slow. The moves are extremely limited and the boss fights can feel somewhat samey.
The whole time I was playing the game I was reminded how different the first Terrifier movie was compared to the sequels. Meaning... Perhaps if the developers decide to bring out any future beatemups the quality will improve. As have the Terrifier movies, in my opinion.
If you are a fan of the movies, then feel free to consider buying this. I am a fan of the movies and while I was extremely hesitant to buy this I was not terribly disappointed. Just conflicted.
It's worth a play through.

I wanted to play this game as I have been into Sonic the Hedgehog as a video game series since it was originally release on the Mega drive. I have also recently played Episode 1, so was curious to at least experience how the developers of this instalment wanted to follow on from the mess that had been made of the first episode.
This looks way better than E1. It's very polished, Sonic looks and moves better and the boss sprites have a better design. There has even been a new mechanic added to allow you to make use of Tails during game-play. But I still did not enjoy playing this game.
The original Sonic video games are very much about flow. Even during the more difficult sections you know that you will still get enjoyment from the game as the emphasis is on 'fun'.
There are sections of the Sonic 4 games that are unnecessarily frustrating and just make for unpleasant experience, which is disappointing.
The music is better, the zones are an least trying to be more unique in this one, but it all still feels very meh. And this is not a Sonic title that I see myself wanting to play over and over again. I was just very glad when I was able to finish the game, in truth.
Again if you want to own and play all of the Sonic video games, sure, add this to your collection and have a go, like I did. It's interesting at the very least.
It IS better than E1 in many ways. but this is still not a Sonic game that I wish to recommend. The franchise had already been around long enough for Sega to have given the green light to a better product.

Super jank. But super fun.
If you enjoy the old Shinobi games and want to support an indie dev's homage to the classic game series, this is a pretty enjoyable effort.
Yes it has it's flaws. But it is fun to play and that is the most important part of any game.

I adore this game. It really revitalises the franchise. The devs have done an amazing job of not only bringing back the old Sonic nostalgia, but also spinning things completely around by remixing everything, so it all feels completely fresh.
There really is not that much more to say.
If you are a seasoned Sonic fan, or introducing yourself to Sonic games, this title is an excellent addition.
Much fun to be had.

It is not often I leave a negative reviews for video games. But Sonic fans will understand why this series of games has become pretty infamous. That being Sonic 4.
If you have never seen this game before and are interested in some Sonic history, then feel free and try it out, like I have. But fair warning, many find this to be a joyless experience, me included. I will admit to getting pretty angry over how this game looked and played.
From the beginning of the game you can see that this was a mess to develop and it's surprising that Sega even put their name to it, let alone that the title Sonic 4 Episode 1 was ever agreed.
This may all sound harsh to those of you who have never seen this game before, but it is warranted.
Sonic does not look, nor does he move like Sonic. The devs have taken some of the best parts from previous, more successful, Sonic titles and have, what I can only describe as, ruined them.
This was originally supposed to be a mobile phone game, hence the need to install Java to run it.
Sonic does not have his usual well performing physics and there are so many other issues.
Needless to say the third instalment of Sonic 4 never happened. And the Sega tried to salvage the situation the best they could with some alterations on Sonic 4 Episode 2.
And don't get me started on the soundtrack. Because it's terrible.
Remember, once you start investing time and energy into plaything this game, should you decide to.... There are SO MANY better Sonic games out there.

I enjoyed this short indie horror game.
The story is unique, there is a good amount of tension being built throughout.
Some interesting ideas and enough to keep the player invested enough to get all of the endings.
Plus it's free.

Life-long Sonic fan here. And I am talking since when Sonic first hit the Mega Drive.
If you like classic Sonic and would like to play classic Sonic on your PC this is a pretty awesome compilation.
Lots of super cute cartoon intros.
Lots of hidden extras.
And you can never really have too much sonic.
Not really.
If you love the old school Sonic video games, do yourself a favour and get a copy of this.
Nostalgia heaven.
