Game looks simple but is very poorly optimised, in a way that you will only notice on later stages. (Every part of the map is rendered all at once, some Traps produce flaming arrows which stack on top of each other, each producing volumetric lights, and a truckload of particles and more lights from the fancier enemies that are absolutely non-optional). The graphical settings are not much help either as they are very lackluster. For clarification, my hardware is above the minimum requirement.

Do not consider playing this game unless you have a friend (or friendS, if you are a winner in life). There are many classes to choose from, and there are only a handful of classes with which you will have actual fun in the singleplayer mode, majority of which coming from DLC content (Conjurer, Tinkerer, Punisher, Mesmer, Accursed). Most other classes are designed with glaring weaknesses that are supposed to be filled in by other classes and are very tedious to try and make work on their own without some hours put into it.

Otherwise it can be a pretty fun game to sink your evening into. A single campaign can last up to three hours or more depending on how slow you're taking it.

It was a phenomenal game. It isn't one anymore. You can no longer enjoy the gameplay of this masterpiece to it's fullest.

But it's spirit is eternal. The characters, the soul, the effort that was put into it is something that isn't often seen in the gaming industry. I was fascinated by the world of this game when i was very young and watched all of Meet The Character animatics. The production quality on that ♥♥♥♥ is beyond what Disney could ever hope to achieve. It's immaculate.

Although, admittedly Bethesda is a bad company nowadays, all the credit for this brilliant game goes to Obsidian. If you haven't played this game yet for whatever reason, might consider doing it. It's not as expensive as modern games go, and it probably has a lot more entertaining story and character development than, Skyrim for an example. It's modification variety is very wide, and high quality, ranging from weird mods for... People of questionable ethics, to absolute gems that can improve your game experience to the point of c r i p p l i n g a d d i c t i o n.

Игра заспавнила эту чертилу прямо в кратере бездны, из которого оно выпрыгнуло как чертик из табакерки, нежно поцеловав нашу субмарину прямо в пузико. От таких прелюдий наша субмарина потекла. Все нижние отсеки были затоплены в считанные секунды, и отметка глубины близилась к 4000 метрам и глубже. Мы падали в никуда.

Но я уже был в подобной ситуации, и знал, что такие огромные дырки это блед, ни с проста.

В подтверждение моим опасениям , сонар предупреждает меня о движении с нижней стороны субмарины, некого фалического объекта. Червячок радостно промурчал моей команде свою приветственную песнь, и чуть было не провёл кесарево сечение нашей лодке. Благо техники в страхе за свою жизнь успели залатать балласты, и лодка неслась чуть-чуть быстрее нашего знакомого, который в скорем времени от нас отстал.

По возвращении на станцию, половина моего экипажа досрочно ушла на пенсию.

This is a revising of my review after giving the B42 some time to develop and get fleshed out and it's a mixed bag.

Do i recommend this game if you want an atmospheric solo survival experience? No, absolutely not. Get CDDA if that's what you're looking for, it's free, packed with ten times more features and a far more punchy atmosphere of Hopelessness.

Do i recommend this game as a decent multiplayer platform? Yes, actually. But not everyone has enough friends or even a mid-sized group of people to make this game truly shine. The best experience you are going to have in this game is setting up a 10-12 person persistent roleplay environment which this game is pretty good at facilitating, especially with the latest crafting system that allows different people in different groups to hyper-specialise into certain niches.

I was very skeptical on the mechanic of muscle strain but now that I've played around with it some more it helped me realise that it makes the early game survivor really calculate his chances of taking on a group of default walkers with care and consideration if they don't want to get caught off guard by (a frankly unrealistic amount of) pain slowdown. Overall it's a very good way to make regular walkers more of a challenge without harming the core gameplay loop too much and it promotes training up your character skills.

The recent changes to the way zombies react to gunfire also help make that particular way of combat way harder on the logistical side of things without it feeling forced. You'll have to set up a place to fall back to in order to resupply ammo as the zombies will simply keep trickling in over time instead of bearing down on you as a big blob that's easily taken care of by a single molotov. Their walk speed also seems to be somewhat random by default and always slightly faster than a character's calm walk cycle when they are agitated - this is also good as it means you are playing a game of attrition, adding even more complexity to what was used to be a dead simple loop of : Aim, Shoot, Turn, Walk, Aim, Shoot, Repeat. This isn't a bad thing, and I like it a lot.

My main gripe? Make the ai-voiced survivor shouts and the ceaseless moaning and groaning optional. If i wanted to hear people moan in my ears every few minutes i'd download a different kind of game.

This valve game gets updates to this day.
