Somewhat of a black sheep in the Souls series, but probably worth your time if you enjoy the other ones.

Dark Souls II has its fair amount of jank, but it also brings several interesting mechanics and ideas to the table.
For example, you can choose to reset an area and bring the difficulty of into NG+ (or higher if you're already in NG+ or have reset the area before), thus respawning the boss and some items.
There's also some interesting changes to the magic and healing mechanics, as well as a way to dual wield weapons.

All in all DS2 is a bit of a flawed experience, but one I'd recommend experiencing for yourself if you're a souls fan rather than just going off of the opinions of others.

It's the Dark Souls of soulslikes.

Jokes aside, this game is not as nightmarishly difficult as you might have heard. It requires you to be patient and willing to learn at times, and it can be easy to get lost or walk the wrong way (Especially early in the game. Don't go through the graveyard until you're ready. Trust me.)

It is still difficult, but this is not a game that requires lightning-fast reflexes and perfect timing.
Dark Souls commands respect but will also respect the player in turn. The player might die in two or three hits, but so will most of the common enemies. There are plenty of traps, but if you inspect the environment you can usually spot them ahead of time. There are no automatic checkpoints and you drop your currency when you die, but any item you pick up or lever you switch stays and you don't have to go do it again, so it never resets any non-combat progress.

Bosses that happens to die at the same time as you even stay dead after you respawn.

If you're willing to give this game time and not rush through things, you'll likely be able to persevere to the end.
If you haven't experienced the Souls series before, it might very well change how you view games.

"Do not be sorry. Be better"

God of War is a game about the cycle of violence, of trying to become a better person and opening up emotionally. There's grief, regret, and love.
The story is in my opinion heartfelt and executed very well. There's a few parts where it meanders a bit, that feels like they were added mainly to extend the length of the story. But even in those moments it the quality never feels like it dips too far, and the high peaks more than makes up for it.

The core gameplay loop feels engaging enough, and the camera never cutting once from start to finish (except for when you die) makes it easy to just keep on playing as your attention never gets interrupted. Some of the side content feels a bit lacking at times, but it's the main quest you're really here for.
And the bigger side quests are definately up to quality.

The graphics and art direction are both gorgeous, and the PC port if very well handled.

In summary, God of War does what does very well. It's not the most unique game in any particular aspect, but it is worth a playthrough if you like action-adventure games with a focus on storytelling.

Came to try out JRPGs as a genre, left with an existential crisis. This is now easily one of my top three favorite games ever.
The way that the mechanics and narratives are woven together are just superb.

Be sure to play NG+ and NG++. It's not just harder enemies like in other games, it's essential to the story as a whole.

Took over the city of Rome as a Byzantine vassal, kicked out the pope and formed the kingdom of Rome making Catholisism officially herecy and Orthodox the true Christian faith. Later saw the pope rule two random counties down in Africa 10/10 would do again.

Try it out now that's it's free!

Bought this game on a whim, and it swept me off my feet. Nice visuals, cozy soundtrack, and incredibly lifelike and memorable characters. I don't only endorse this game, I reccomend it from the bottom of my heart.

Plus, it'll soon get a free update with more content and the two short prequel games included.

If you're in any way a fan of 1980's aesthetics and first person shooters, this game is a match made in heaven. It's built in the same engine and has th same gameplay as Far Cry 3, but in a smaller package and for a lower prize. Stoey is fairly short and there's not a lot to do in the world, but it's definately a fun romp while it lasts. Consider picking it up in a sale.

Downside: You have to install Uplay.

Pros:

+ Fun mix of gameplay similar to Zelda and God of War
+ Interesting story and lore
+ Great soundtrack
+ Fantastic voice acting, including Mark Hamill in one of the main roles
+ Great art direction

Cons:

- No graphics options
- Some HUD elements are 720p
- Textures are fairly low-res
- Some control issues. Can't change control method on the fly, have to restart the game if you want to switch between controller and m+kb
- Achievements may not unlock

Summary:

Fairly decent game, unfortunately it's not a very good port. Still very much playable if you don't mind these issues.
