After letting a gifted VR headset collect dust over the past 2 years, graduating college, and finally becoming employed (lol), I decided to bite the bullet and play Half Life: Alyx. I had tried VR and didn't really get it, I get it now. The truth is most VR titles haven't reached the true potential of VR, HLA has. Valve has made an incredible experience for half life fans, even with all the (personally) annoying quirks of VR. If you have a headset I highly recommend you give this game a shot, and if you don't maybe even get a cheap headset on sale if you can just for this game, even if you don't think VR is all that worth it.

When this game came out a friend of mine asked me to play. I avoided other games like REPO or Lethal company (they're probably great games too!), because they looked like the games your friends tell you to buy and you never touch again after a few runs, but for some reason at the time this game looked different. I then realized why, this to me, had a far more concrete objective and even was something I could do by myself: Reaching the PEAK.

Admittedly after my first game on, I was frustrated. The game was buggy causing me to die in unexpected ways, I wasn't able to join my friends, and voice chat randomly ceased to exist at the start of a new run (verifying integrity of game files temporarily fixed it for me btw). However even through my frustrations with the game, I kept playing. I even began to play on my own, beating the game solo and with friends! The accomplishment I felt was immense and sent me into a Ratatouille like sequence of remembering what games were really meant to be about: having fun. Especially in a world where competitive shooters dominate my library.

I do hope they fix issues with some of the maps as some of the suitcases can spawn in the air becoming inaccessible, along with all the other issues I listed above. Again, in spite of all those issues I highly recommend you buy this game now, because 1.) they'll be fixed, 2.) The game is on sale, and is already cheap 3.) Its just a fun time solo or with friends.

I've played this game on console mostly but bought it a week ago on PC and Ill say it is definitely worth it just for the zombies workshop experience.

10/10 would waste life again
