You're probably wishing that I could just stop talking about my Blu-Ray collection. And if that is the case then you'll be very disappointed, 'cause I will never shut up about my Blu-Ray collection.

NOTE: The items I publicly display are because Im bragging about my investments towards virtual items that I can't even put atop my own noggin. Plus ya boi's got a mad superiority complex that I like to boast about. In other words it's me being a pretentious jackass. I do it because it's fun for me and not fun for you. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

I put plenty of hours in this game. I went through each zone and completed every ounce of research, I grinded up to Level 48, and I damn near finished the game (currently on the second-to-last chapter). But then I stopped. I stopped and uninstalled the game after reaching slightly over 100 hours. Here's why:

FF7 Rebirth hits you with a bunch of unnecessary mechanics and features that are simultaneously bland and over-the-top that serve as constant negative incentives to playing the game.

That being said FF7 Rebirth definitely does plenty of things right. The premise is much more light-hearted and doesn't feature as much edgy anime ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as Remake (although anime ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is still present). Plus there's much more freedom with exploration and party members. The combat is also very fleshed out, fast paced, and has a hint of nostalgia with the ATB command system. And I think most people can agree that the soundtrack is fantastic. The game won Best Soundtrack at The Game Awards and I think it was very well deserved.

But the issues I have with Remake are amplified in this game. Like Remake, the combat becomes more difficult by punishing the player with dumb insta-kill mechanics, hefty stun-locks, and enemy combos that deplete half your HP just by making a minor mistake. The mini-games are lengthy and unappealing (except for maybe 1-2 exceptions), and serve as an unhealthy distraction to an otherwise bland and repetitive story (like dear god I usually hate card games but I REALLY hate Queen's Blood lol).

Totally understand if this game appeals to certain audiences (like hardcore Final Fantasy players). It's a shame because I REALLY wanted to dive into FF7 through the Remake series. If Im feeling up to it I might come back to finish what I started.

But in the end this game was a flop. If you want the true FF7 experience might as well play the original.
