I'm still playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and I wanted to say wow — this is one of those rare RPGs that lives in your mind long after the credits roll. From the first moment, the art direction grips you: the world is both dreamlike and melancholic, like walking through a beautiful memory tinged with decay. It’s gorgeous in a way that feels intentional, not just “pretty for a game.”

Combat & Mechanics:
What really elevates this game is the hybrid combat system — turn-based strategy enriched with real-time mechanics. You can parry, dodge, chain combos, and even free-aim at weak points. It keeps you engaged: you’re not just selecting actions, you’re actively reacting. And building your party is a joy — gear, stats, Pictos (abilities), and character synergies all allow for meaningful customization.

Story & Characters:
The premise is haunting: every year, the mysterious Paintress “paints” an age on a monolith, and anyone past that age fades away. The members of Expedition 33 only have one year left. That sense of mortality underpins everything. Maelle, Gustave, and the rest feel real — their fears, their hopes, the way they lean on each other — it all resonates deeply. The narrative is bold, poetic, and at times ambiguous, but in a way that rewards patience.

Atmosphere & Audio:
The soundtrack is sublime. It’s moody, elegant, and perfectly complements the game’s tone. Voice acting is solid, and the little camp moments (or character conversations) help flesh out the emotional weight of the journey.

Drawbacks:

Exploration isn’t always smooth. There’s no mini-map, so you’ll likely get lost — which a few in the community say fits the theme, but it can be frustrating.

For some, the build system is a little overwhelming — so much freedom means there’s a risk of spreading yourself too thin.

Verdict:
Despite a few rough edges, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a deeply moving, artistically ambitious RPG with heart. The way it handles themes of mortality, memory, purpose, and loss — through its gameplay, its world, and its characters — is mature and resonant. If you love story-rich games and don’t mind a slower, more contemplative pace, this is a must-play.

What can I say but.... balls. And lots of them lol.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game right from the start. Each new level, once unlocked, was unique in its own way. Also being able to customise your ball was enjoyable. Being Canadian I had to sport the Canadian Flag skin and my fave head piece was the helmet that drops after defeating the boss of the first world. Being able to glide was a game changer for certain areas :)
If anyone is a fan of the old school game play styles of Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie and Mario, you will definitely love this game :)

Playing this game brought back found memories from my youth. I enjoyed every minute of it all the way up to the end :)
