I really want to like this game. It's right up my alley in terms of expansive roguelike games.
I just could not get past the controls. Immediately when picking up a controller (Because KB/M seemed out of the question), I realized that none of the controls made sense. Directional controls were going in the opposite directions, and the other controls seemed otherwise completely arbitrary.
After reworking them to a configuration that I thought would work (and did a bit), I got into it, but even while trying to fine tune the controls throughout play, it got increasingly frustrating to slog through the control boss. It seemed like incredibly simple tasks, that games have been handling so smoothly for decades (Like accessing or backing out of menus) were just clunky and difficult.

Maybe there was just something broken with my config, and there are actually really intuitive controls. Maybe I just need to 'get used to it' and get more comfortable. Maybe I'm actually just an idiot.
You know what though? I haven't been this critical of a games control-scheme in I don't know how long, and I wasn't and am not really interested in slogging through who knows how much trial-and-error to find a scheme that is comfortable. Seems like a fun game, but I just can't get into it.

I've only discovered the Yakuza series recently, and I must say that I love these games. They are so entertaining and earnest than you can't help but to love the characters and antics.

Hands down the best ARPG I have played.

A true spiritual successor to Diablo 2, Path of Exile is an incredibly in-depth and complex game. It has a steep learning curve that that can be explored thoroughly during play and will continuously be expanded upon as updates roll out. As a F2P game, it will have you wanting to spend money on it and will surely eat up hours and hours of your life, but only in the best possible way.

EDIT: 3 years and 1 exile-con later, GGG has shown why this game continues to be the gold standard in ARPGs and game development in general. New fresh content throughout the year, bigger core changes a couple of times a year, and then they drop bombs every few years to keep things fresh and fun.

Edit 2: Still great many years later. :)

I honestly did not follow this game very closely through it's development cycle, though I had heard things and knew how much people were looking forward to the game.

I initially bought the game seeing that one of my good buddies was playing. I wanted a game that we could play - but I wasn't super attached to the idea of multiplayer. The idea of a game we could play separately but still talk about our different paths, planets, etc. was also appealing to me.
It was fun for the first... maybe 6 hours or so. I upgraded my ship, my multi-tool, and learned an alien language. After that, I just didn't feel any reason to keep on doing anything in the game. Nothing actually seemed that it lead anywhere and there was no real sense of progression outside of getting a bigger inventory so that I could farm more to get a bigger inventory.

I came in with mildly high hopes, and left feeling very very disappointed.

EDIT: After 2 years and lots of patches (Which I give them props for sticking with), this game is now closer to a level that it should have released at. I still don't find it very fun.
I think the hopefully-not-temporary $30 price tag is much more fair, and might be worth a shot at that price if you like Space-sims - but it's still not a game I like very much.
