Albeit not the best Atelier game, it's still a very good entry. Of course, the game has some flaws (mainly technical), but most of them are fixable if the developers are up to it.

The main story and characters' stories are really engaging, and I find myself caring for them with anticipation of what happens next and how their relationship will evolve (the different races are also pretty charming).

The combat system is pretty much a button mashing fest with easy dodging mechanics (note that the IA will rarely dodge anything, so prepare some life-stealing gears for them). I usually prefer turn-based combat for Atelier games, but I don't mind engaging in combats on Yumia, so there's that at least.

The graphics might look bad to some, but to me, I find the game pretty. The characters, the world aesthetics and the color palette used all blend well together. The character models and animation are really well done too. The one thing that could be better are the textures on some world's meshes, which can look very blurry at times. Also, the PC optimization needs a lot of fixing, but that's another thing, and it'll be fixed with time.

Now for the alchemy system, I'm only mid-game, but I can already tell it's not as "dumbed down" as people try to make it out to be. Sure, it's not as difficult to get used to as some older Atelier titles, but there's enough depth to get one invested in theoricrafting the best gears for each character or making the best consumables.
