Had me and the guys cry from laughter in less than an hour. If you haven't tried this game yet, do yourself and your friends a favor, and do it.

I landed on a spot in the Impossible Game, which requires me to leave a positive review of Tabletop Simulator. Even if I didn't this review was only a matter of time, considering how ridiculously fun it is.

As much as I used to love the game, and as many hours as I've poured into it, today I'm really torn between recommending or not recommending it. One of the best things is that despite the DLCs being reintroduced, the previously whole experience, now titled the Legacy Collection is still packing roughly 80€ worth of DLC into a 20€ bundle. DLCs that have been introduced since are tightly packed to be roughly 20€, and when it comes to paying 50€ for an almost 8 year old game being worth it or not, it comes down to what the game has to offer with all its content packs. My hours speak for themselves.

Despite the fact, that some questionably design choices bring the experience down a little, I have so many good memories with PAYDAY 2. I've never found a game like this again, the characters are memorable, the gameplay is solid, especially with friends, the customization options you're given regarding weapons and masks, and more recently weapon colors, suits and gloves don't leave a lot to be desired, a good amount of it is locked behind achievements as well, making you earn them, and give them some sentimental value too. RNG elements add to the replay value, albeit certain RNG elements are unbalanced enough that you'd rather restart the heist to get a more favorable outcome.

The more you play this game and the more you get into it, the more you're gonna like it as you get more familiar with it, and better at it. That's a definite fact in my opinion, and it spices up the replayability as well, however the more you see of how the game works, the more... I don't want to call them lazy designs, but rather technical limitations, if I were to guess that is. Some mechanics are clunky at times, and no character in game has facial animations of any kind, even as they're speaking. I think it's worth noting, that the game uses the Diesel 2.0 engine, the 2nd generation of the 2001 Diesel engine, which didn't age well, has its limitations, was originally made to power a racing game (Ballistics), and is pretty outdated.

With PAYDAY 3 pretty much being confirmed, as it's said to be released in 2023 (but let's be honest, delays have always been a part of game development, and albeit an entire year is a wide window, I've learned to always expect delays not in regards of PAYDAY, but in regards to any and all game announcements), as lost as it may get, I'd like to highlight a thing or two that the third installment could and should do better.
-First, it's gonna use Unreal4 for an engine, so we already have something to love. I really hope that's gonna mean everything is gonna be more detailed, characters having facial animations and lip sync, textures being higher resolution, loading times improving, the usual.
-RNG elements need to be balanced out, things like whether there's cameras on a heist or not, or the 1% ambush chance despite perfectly stealthing day 1 of Framing Frame, or not telling the player where the escape is gonna be (and then the escape driver getting mad at the player for not being ready with the loot they NEED to secure) need to go. For what it's worth I'd also rather have extra loot be locked behind something I need to open, than RNG deciding to spawn less loot this session.
-Something more subjective, the highest difficulty shouldn't just consist of ridiculously tough enemies. That kind of stuff could be reserved for a modifier, like what One Down is.
-Certain mechanics could use an overhaul, for example, it's annoying to have to yell at a civilian to get down for the nth time because their getting scared animation didn't finish yet, and yelling at them does nothing.
-Stealth needs to be completely reworked. Guards cannot see me crouching 10 meters in front of them, but they can sure as heck spot a bag or a dead body from across the map. Their field of view is ridiculous, you can practically dance in front of cameras for a while without consequences, open doors go unnoticed while only certain open doors/vaults raise suspicion, most of it doesn't make sense.

Closing it all off, my past with this game, and the DLC bundle availability pushes this 'review' to be recommended, it's good fun, albeit can be annoying, and I can almost literally guarantee you won't find a game like this anywhere. We'll probably see more future content for it too, but PAYDAY 3 is gonna be where it's at. If this game can be this good with all its flaws, questionable decisions made, and technical limitations, imagine the third installment without these kinds of issues.

There's some changes which aren't faithful to the original, most if not all of which aren't necessarily bad, since they freshen up the experience. I had fun with the game, not exactly sure if I would've bought it for 15 bucks, yet then again the fact that it's free for owners of the original 2 games is a really nice touch.

Edit: Since the issue of "woody’s command not getting executed when mouse control is active and the command gets initiated while woody is transitioning between rooms/areas" has been fixed, I removed it from the review.
Another Edit: The missing levels, which were originally mentioned in this review, has been added to the game. This makes me happy!
