Pros
  • Difficulty feels fair – Played on Hard with a friend. Honestly, not much different from Normal; you can still get downed easily, but enemies aren’t just bullet sponges. Enemies and loot are adjusted to your level so technically you would not be over or under leveled when joining sessions.
  • Funny physics: you can jump around with a sniper and headshot enemies. It’s surprisingly fun hopping over cover or walls and landing clean headshots.
  • Gunplay and exploration feel much better than Borderlands 3 or Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands (I dropped both after only a few hours).
  • You get double jump, air dash, and a grapple hook for movement — all of which help with exploration and dodging damage.
  • Some boss mechanics are interesting and fun.
  • I really liked the design of the final boss castle area.
  • After beating the game, you unlock the option to create characters directly at level 30 to test out other classes and builds for endgame.

Cons
  • Bad optimization. I had to turn on Frame Generation just to get a decent framerate and smooth gameplay — at least the FG implementation isn’t borked ( looking at you, Monster Hunter Wild ).
  • Most (if not all) weapons are projectile-based instead of hitscan. Takes a bit of getting used to, especially for long-range weapons.
  • Weird netcode: even playing with a friend in the same country, the game lagged or stuttered frequently as the client. It’s extra painful for sniper classes, but even my friend using pistols/shotguns complained. No problem playing as host though.
  • Side missions feel like a chore — lots of traveling between points to do fetch/kill objectives, plus unskippable dialogue.
  • Loot drops feel off. Around 90% of it is junk to sell. There’s even an achievement for equipping legendaries in every slot, but legendaries are super rare — even on Hard or postgame (where loot is supposed to improve).
  • The first area honestly has the most interesting bosses (story boss + vault guardian). The other two areas feel like an afterthought — my friend and I even brute-forced a boss in under 5 minutes.
  • Endgame feels grindy and like filler. Enemies are more bullet-spongy, modifiers feel gimmicky, and progress basically requires a specific build to be efficient (shock > shield, corrosive > armor, etc.).

Mixed feelings about this game. I think there’s slightly more good than bad, but still — I’d only recommend it on discount. By then, hopefully the performance issues have been ironed out.

I beat the main story around level 32, around 24hours at HARD (mostly coop). And afterward spend some more hours endgame, getting to UVH rank2 (2 difficulty higher post game).
Post game (UVH1) we beat the vault guardians, do some world event, side activities, beat the necessary bosses and story repeat to rank up to UVH2 net me to level 40, it really feels like the grind is a lot slower post level 30. But the biggest gripe is I barely get decent loots, the gun with the manufacturer I like, the mod that drop are not for my class (I play exo, but I find 2 legendary mod drop for other class), and I don't know if it's my luck, the weird loot pool, but the legendary gun I find are mostly pistol, rainbow shotgun, and a charge up sniper rifle (that i only found in the legendary vendor machine), barely seen assault rifle, smgs legendary drop/ in shops.
Since halfway through the game I spec my character into sniper, I just stick with mostly green or blue grade sniper rifle that I got lol. And fun as it may beating some bosses with a mechanic the first time, redoing it again and again just to meet some green and blue drops from the boss and the reward red crate is really demotivating, and those mostly marked as trash and sold straight after. You do get occasional purples here and there, but a lot of the time, the gun isn't to your liking, the stat is not for your build, etc. which means they are vendor trash anyway.

Things may change at max level, things may change later after balancing, but at the moment, i Don't recommend the end game. I appreciate they are giving specialization perks and leveling as endgame, also the gear firmware (gear that get stronger perk if you collect up to 3 of same class). But I just don't feel that's enough incentive.
My friend and I even joked when we hunt the primordial vault guardians post game (like a step up from world boss, each need 3 key, and have a cool cutscene and some boss mechanic like the story big bosses);
'you know what we will find after hunting all these guardians?'
'loots?'
'And disappointment. Mostly disappointment'

and it came true, blue and green loot galore, but hey, at least we sold it to vendor and become a million cred richer lol

since i happened to beat the game, figured might as well write a review for it..

pros:
  • cool mech design
  • quite a lot of varieties of monster to hunt, weapon and armor to loot, perks to learn
  • light, medium, heavy type mech are interesting and catered to your playstyle
  • quite a lot of weapon varieties and a lot of those have their own personality and feels good to use
  • we can show or hide the mech parts to show our characters (that we can model) as part of our playthrough
  • the bosses has each own interesting mechanic (the later, humanoid boss types)
  • there are a lot of side stuff to do, card games, drops, card encryption/dungeon, colosseum, etc -- which are not tied to main story, so we can do it leisurely even after beating the story

cons:
  • world design is so so, but that is usually the case for many open world games
  • after couple hours, or around halfway the game the enemy variety decrease, they just introduce alpha and beta variants
  • game has built in mouse acceleration, aiming feels off, so i opt in using gamepad instead, the ingame lock mechanic for shooting is serviceable.
  • melee feels superior, the damage, the stun to bosses, and the enemy lock mechanic really helps, i personally beat the game mostly using melee (even up to the final boss)
  • ingame tutorial/ explanation is weak, not sure if it's just a translation thing, if they just assume we already know stuff from previous games (i don't play previous games), so we need to figure out what those mechanics ourselves
  • some of the bosses are repeats
  • story is weak, the write/director tries to dramatize stuff a lot, but it has a weak effect since we don't really get a decent introduction or story to know those characters..

Beat the game on Normal difficulty, blind (no guide), in 16 hours—mostly in co-op since a friend shared the game with me. To be honest, it was a pretty enjoyable experience, so I’d give this game a thumbs up.

The game might take longer for people playing solo, since some of the boss mechanics aren’t easy. I remember dying several times to the early bosses just to catch up to my friend’s story progress. But once we played together, the game became a lot easier—we could brute-force our way through to the end, lol. That’s mostly because the boss mechanics are designed to focus on a single player.
We did spend an hour or two replaying one boss for loot to gear up when things started getting harder, but that was the only real farming session we had to do. The rest of the drops were generous enough to carry us all the way to the final boss.
