Sometimes it's the indie games that make a huge impression on you. Hotline Miami is by far one of my most favorite games of all time. It helps to think of it as a violent thinking-man's puzzle game, as you'll die repeatedly until you brood and plot over a level to figure out the best way of overcoming the numerous obstacles in your path. Eventually a plan will begin to form, and there's always that rush of exhilaration when either your plan works perfectly, or it doesn't and somehow you're still able to salvage the mission and come out on top, covered with the blood of your enemies. Add in an excellent soundtrack by some extremely talented artists, and you've got perhaps the best indie game ever made.
