If you want a visual novel that has some picross, then this would probably be up your alley. If you want a picross game with a story, this isn't it (from what I saw.)

Initially I read through all of the dialogue, but realized that I didn't think a puzzle was going to come up soon. So I decided to just click through all of dialogue after that and after 15 minutes of playing I didn't get to the third puzzle.

I was hoping it'd be a puzzle game first with some story elements to drive it forward and maybe some gimmicky puzzle things in and out of the picross to keep it interesting. It seems much more to be a story first game with the puzzle secondary.

I really enjoyed Underlords and the original Dota 2 mod for this. Overall I think they've done a good job with the game and balancing. The issue I had is that they were making so many changes, that I couldn't really keep up and stopped playing for a while.

Now that it's gotten into it's official release, I think they're in a good spot.

There's still some minor things I'd like to see (e.g. if two players are knocked out on the same round, have them battle again to see who gets what place, rather than it being essentially random based on timing who was knocked out seconds before the other.)

I don't play this as much anymore, but it's still a game I'll pick up from time to time and enjoy.

Incredibly fun and a great time sink. Has enough depth to keep it interesting, but not overly so that it's impossible to get into.

Highly recommend to anyone who'd thinks they'd like this style of game.

CS:GO Review
I've been playing Counter Strike off and on since 1999/1998. CSGO has something I've really enjoyed a put a good amount of time into.

The recent changes the team has made having the TRUST factor when matching making has been great. The number of smurfs/alt and cheaters I've gotten in Matchmaking has gone down drastically and makes me actually want to play MM more.

The changes that they've made to the BR game have been really good, and is my favorite BR that is currently out there.


Definitely things that they can do better, but overall a game that any person who enjoys FPS's should be playing.

I'm a big fan of rouge lite strategy games. I have 300 hours on Slay the Spire and FTL.

I do not like Dicey Dungeons.

How much did I play? I beat the first episode with most of the characters.

RNG feels like it has way to much weight

StS has card draw RNG and FtL has rng on what room gets hit, damage, etc.. RNG is inherently part of these types of games. However, this one just doesn't feel good. Obviously, some/most of the characters you can get cards that modify/change the dice, but it just doesn't feel right. It feels a lot more like reacting then being able to be proactive, and that, to me, isn't a satisfying strategy game.

StS/FtL you still have to react, but there's a lot of things you can do to hedge your bets. In this game, the only thing you can store is your power-ups, and that's about it. Maybe if there was a way to store a dice each turn, or something where you had to actually make a decision that affects future turns... idk maybe terrible idea, but my point stands. The RNG forces you to have to be reactive and then your quality of play is a result of did I get the dice roll I wanted, not have I built a good deck or made good decisions up until this point to make this fight easier/better.

Lack of card diversity

When I had to do multiple playthroughs trying to win with one of the characters, when I came across the first chest to get a new card... it was the same options almost every time. The reason StS is so great is because there's such a diversity of cards to choose from and the good characters have multiple build archetypes. The replayability instantly took a hit for me here. It didn't feel like I was trying to play to maybe try a different build with this character to see if it was better, it felt like I basically had no options and was just hoping for better dice RNG this time.

As you get deeper into the levels, the offerings do get more diverse, but still, from run to run it didn't often feel like I had that many opportunities to have a drastically different build/style than I did in the previous run.

Pathing is basically meaningless

When you get on a level, you have a set number of enemies, it's the same number every time. In order to reach the max levels at the end of the game, you have to defeat every enemy on every level. It was not very common that I really had to think much about pathing, other than maybe "let's kill them first so I can get the hp restored."

It's another place where there could have been some strategy and decision making, but you can move freely throughout the level. There's almost no thought that you have to put in to decide how to go through the level.

Game length

It's short, each playthrough is maybe 20-30 minutes in full. I personally like my rouge lites to be a bit longer, but then again there doesn't feel like much decision making is going on throughout the game, so maybe if it was longer it would just feel drawn out.

UI Lacking Info

I was actually pretty shocked to see that a game like this which seems to be more for the casual crowd did not have a UI that would explain things well. When you have status effects or cards that do things, I could not hover over the card, or double click it to see more details. I'd find myself googling that status effects meant and what they did. There's zero reason, in a game with so much polish, that should be happening.

Conclusion

I'd suggest Slay the Spire over this 100% of the time. It's a great game that you can pick up to play casually without a thought of trying to min-max, but just have fun and a game with a ton of depth that can hit the players who want to try hard. I'm not one of those, I'm okay at StS, but not great. I enjoy though that when I lose in StS I can chalk it up to mistakes I made, not bad RNG (mostly.)

This game doesn't feel like that, when I'd lose it often felt like I had little control over the situation or when I won. I regret that I played more than 2 hours so I couldn't return this game.

Maybe there is some hidden depth that I just can't see, but I forced myself to play this past my enjoyment of it to see if there was a character or anything that would grab me to make me want to play more and there wasn't.

I can see why some people like this game, but it's not my cup of tea.

I like rouge-lites, but this was very short. I beat it on my first go in about 20-30 minutes.

Fun enough gameplay, but a game I'd wait to check in on until they add more to it.
