pirated the sea's with this one and had to buy it 6x cos it's jus a classic nice feeling shooter and the devs deserve some coin - reminiscent of the good ol' days of crazy boomer shooters where intellectual property wasn't a class action lawsuit so yknow creativity and fan service could thrive.

NOTHING can or will ever beat this game, easily THE BEST video game/entertainment product in the world, it's not even fair to write characters and a world this well - dan howsiee wowsie is a legend, and everyone on the team, all the old guards of rockstar coming together for one last hurrah and making the most remarkable experiences I've had the pleasure to go through, before mr.shark-card yuppie shareholder steakholder from wall st and his gang of cronies takes over the whole company and turns rockstar into a micro-transaction hellscape like bethesda, microsoft, activision and epic games, ea games, ubisoft, ALL OF THE MOBILE GAMING INDUSTY etc trap you in.

RDR1 which feels very much like a traditional good ass nice clean video game then you touch this and it's a different breed, having you start as a new character that is not the main protagonist from rdr1 was so risky AND to write him in such a way that as the player you are meant to kinda not like him, he's cold, temperamental, egotistical but fiercely loyal and with that one good slice of Arthur you can attach onto, it devolves into a whole character arc that changes from the Arthur we see at the beginning and it's just fkn tasty and u want more even though it hurts. funny thing was at first I did really hate Arthur Morgan and now he stands as one of my fav characters in media. testament to the amazing writing and talent needed to create such a response, Roger Clark done such a remarkable job with Arthur, absolute perfected delivery. following Arthur and the gang's journey is something I wish I could experience again for the first time, nothing like watching modern TV-shows and movies in 2026 is fkn miserable, acting is dull, zero talent, cgi shlop, ai mess, duffer brothers being funded millions to write garbage, disney mauling every franchise they buy the media market is saturated with greed and a massive disconnect from what the audience want and PASSION.

once rdr2 is tweaked w some mods from nexus you have yourself at least 600hrs of pure fun and exploration. 2018 game is still the most visually intensive and is fairly well optimized considering, the lighting and weather effects are like nothing else, combined with an audioscape ambience that keeps you constantly attentive. the voice acting, cutscenes the way the sandbox/world moves around the player is like insane. I wasn't even a fan of anything related to the old west maybe westworld or some tarintino flicks but am no john wayne watcher but this game made me genuinely interested in certain periods in history like the mining towns that rioted/overthrown and immigrants being used for cheap labor like building housing, rail tracks, mining, jobs that had low life expectancy and Butch Cassidy etc, oh and like the REAL existence of the pinkerton agency founded by an Scotsman like myself, also love the Scottish nods that we get in rockstar products and rdr2 is no stranger to that, but also it is accurate to real history where lot's of Scottish people tried to flee to america for a better life/land/opportunity. I found myself exploring old documentaries and college classes, anecdotal stories from old boomers on youtube about the history of how the US's first rail-lines were built or the history of train robberies that proceeded, what implored people to preform specific actions back then from survival and necessity to power and greed which is recognized throughout the story and development of the gang/characters. exploring the real history of the US's and overall superiority of the western man and their perception that has caused so much pain and loss its incomprehensible. why certain political statues are in place today is due to the foundational effects from that era where society and common knowledge was a lot worse than it is now and its absurdity and irony of our actions and how we perceive other people to this day.

The way rockstar condensed all these smaller versions of old timey cities, towns, abandoned villages, shacks etc all existing human architecture and seeing the wealth distribution within these varied districts which mimic reality again from bustling city harbors where commerce is hosted to the old mines in the mountains where the source is often cheap and extorted by means of deceit with specters of old roaming the mines as they threw their life so some aristocrat could sit in town with lots of woman and drink and live the life of a king, a tantalizing advertisement the US offers to it's victims. the US landscape is truly god's land and can see why so many americans believe in a god when your environment looks and feels crafted by heavenly powers, so much land and space, variety of biome from blistering dry harsh desert to cold wet mountains and within that contains different variations of cultures and people that have been sculpted by their living experiences further cementing you in. it's remarkable but also incredibly sad, how native americans had their land/space invaded and tortured, pillaged and forced to conform, full oppressed with no other choice but to fight or die which sadly the latter was far too common as rdr2 highlights - inspired by real world events and chars, from money hungry oil barons, to power hungry insecure men and your rebellious anarchism interweaved with 'supposed order' in a world where nothing is certain its just fantastic.

exploring masculinity and what it means to be a man, and even in some cases what it is to be a white man in a land where other ethnicities are deeply oppressed and the guilt and consequence of action or in-action can be highlighted upon. the cycles of violence and why we preform them, the desire and outcomes of revenge and what is deemed justice, the fear of death, the bravado of surviving and driven by morals or purpose or law, doing what is 'right' isn't always 'just' be who is the arbiter of judgment when you as a single human on earth in this time and moment have a singular or multiple perceptions of how it 'should' be and the chaos that follows and how that's perceived differently through the lenses of each character is bootifull brings damn tears to my eyes.

the era it's set in is so so perfect, the dying age of the cowboy, the late 1800s into 1900s was a fascinating period of time with industrialism hitting it's momentum and the further ramifications that can have upon society and the earth itself, furthering the divide between class and creed, the opportunity for entrepreneurism and the boom of capitalism, the foundations of society and the laws we stand by today - an insight into the chaos and attempted order in our past. what it means to travel to the 'land of the free' when what defines a man that is free and in some showcases highlighting the deep deep oppression woman felt in those times, effects that still travel through to 2026.

I've been playing games for over 20+ years now and nothing has hit quite like RDR2 but it does need the time and space to really absorb the experience and enjoy it. modders are a god-send period. people that clearly LOVE n have mad passion for the game and it's world putting in hours and hours of work and stress and time, giving joy and escapism at the highest caliber for us fellow gamers. Truly shameful Rockstar doesn't promote or reward or highlight these people compared to some companies that HIRE modders to work on the team but thankfully people are working sweat and blood to keep optimizing the mods and game itself. but unlike some other titles the game can still be enjoyed without mods, give urself the time and space a dark room and a set of nice headphones and a nice re-shade and you'll have an amazing experience. It's the LOTR for video games for me. Truly one of a kind, Masterclass of game design and story delivery/writing. to craft something so amazing is well i don't have the words for it really. thank you again you amazing people both devs and modders alike!!

game feels nice, shooting mechanics/gunplay feels really clean and responsive and decent framerates, gun variation is not bad but a bit lack luster, but the environments are fkn sleeper, the OG doom was made in 96 and has more diverse environments and levels, ur char is stuck to the ground offering not much mobility apart from a measly dash which leads to more frame-timing dodges but with a basic cooldown and no further depth it get's boring fast. lore inspired by SOMA is always a nice touch but defo could be darker with it especially when playing with 'apocalypse events, 'isolated alone in space' in ur toybox n is major slept on opportunity.

runs don't feel THAT much different from one another, it's either stealth/bots/melee or ranged with crit/weakpoint or elemental which is quite nice but it doesn't offer a variation in actual playstyle which leads to less exploration of skill ceiling and ppl jus googling 'wot is best meta build' and going with that.
'stages' are so fkn boring w no element of 'hey teleport into this void for this n that' ur in space bro u can do so much with that but we are trapped in ugly ugly ass boxes with ugly same ass reskins of npcs

When changing windows reg settings the game is heavily affected by the infamous tweak that makes AI perform 'slower' giving the human controlling the mechanics more time to process the next steps and making the game fairly easy and boring but when this setting has been altered which; offers an infinitely better frame-time/responsive feeling and online experience but at the cost of making the AI super lightning run speed so you get swarmed constantly, no bueno but most all games are affected with this issue so not so much a problem with the engine/code itself, horde mode is the worst showcase for this though, making sniping one of the only fun options that requires some mechanical skill

main char is kinda bland, not ur silent doomguy or u loud mouth duke nukem but feels like it's inspired by those architypes, for the type of game it is, inspired by other rouge likes, it's an odd one you cannot change or customize your char in anyway.

game would maybe make a fun PVP based on how you move and how the shooting feels - give players 500 shields and 500hp with no way to heal and let them duel for rewards, whoever lands the most wins and can use barrel tech or throwing barriers or shields would b kinda fun.

tldr; feels nice to shoot in for 10 mins then falls off fast, boring, uninspired compared to mycopunk, gunfire, ror1,2, hades etc, spending ur hard earned cash on some dopamine is not this game.

playing this masterpiece as a wee kiddle winkle over and over on a gamecube then a playstation2 port then finally the HD remaster/mod on PC where that insanely dedicated spanish dude went out and actually took photo's of every single piece of ancient architecture then cataloged and replaced each texture and asset with a complete art restoration project that was completely passion driven, how as our world becomes more and more digital; the analog objects that become vessels for our stories and emotion become even more vital and how that ethos fits or doesn’t when it comes to digital properties. maybe the experiential value of the game is as important as that of a physical object, and to respect that visceral affectation it makes all the sense in the world to treat these digital creations with as much respect and reverence as we do the art that inspires them in the first place. to breathe a sense of realism and elegance in the castle grounds that's unparalleled, what a champ, a true gamer, a true artist, a mind for the ages. not changing the art, not 'enhancing' it just a pure restoration but it's even better than the original game itself as he understands the maps/textures/world design and game more than the developers themselves.

the original was a graphical feat for it's time and for capcom to keep up to date with a game that looks this good but also RUNS this well, which is rare nowadays, usually you compromise graphical fidelity for terrible frametimes and low dips/0.1%s lows and bad overall frame pacing but not the REngine putting UE4 to absolute shame. some of the original coloring and sense of feel has been lost much like games like New Vegas and the infamous yellow tint that was prevalent early 2000s games it gave a unique feel

motion capture, voice acting, ost, graphics, core gameplay mechs, map design, ui/inventory design all fantastic, keeping the same narrative structure with some minor changes is how it should be, the campy fun american-inspired japanese 90s horror classic is capcom's bread and butter, seeing a lot of clones of the RE formula from RE7/Villages mechanics from the classic over the shoulder perspective and even seeing some games that are the original re/dmc camera angles. but nothing beats the capcom classic delivering a blow that makes people re-think how they should approach game design. writing charachters that are likeable, memorable and fit within the horror environment they are in is difficult and why we see so much horror slop that falls to the wayside but resi was the pioneer and still can contend in modern markets

ofc capcom has its rocky history with RE and other titles but when comparing capcom to other triple AAA publishers, well seeing how EA, Bethesda, Activision etc etc all treat their properties and fans with nothing more than financial revenue in mind it does make lil cappy com look a lil better n a lil more caring of the fans and what they actually want, RE7, Village and RE4 were all brilliant games and I'm spoiled as a fan :D really excited for Requiem and seeing where the story goes with Leon and Raccoon City, will we see the remnants of spencer or maybe wesker ohohohoh who knows :D and one day I pray for a Code:Veronica remake :D :D

tldr; capcom fanboy tells u to buy re4 8x times then buy it again not a heavily biased opinion at all :D
