TL;DR
Great atmosphere and exploration, but the game is heavily unbalanced and frustrating. Weak bosses, excessive punishment for mistakes, and poor enemy design ruined the experience for me.

Pros

* Exploration and world design
* Strong atmosphere
* Attention to detail
* Smooth animations

Cons

* Forgettable bosses
* Overly precise platforming
* Excessive backtracking
* Too many flying enemies
* Broken flying enemy behavior
* Touch damage (especially 2-mask)
* Late ability unlocks
* Tools feel weak or pointless
* Poor checkpoint placement

For me, gameplay always matters more than visuals. In Metroidvanias, bosses are a core part of the experience. In Silksong, this is where the game fails the hardest. Out of 46 bosses, only two felt memorable: the Phantom and the Dancers. The rest are boring, mechanically shallow, or forgettable. I kept pushing forward hoping it would get better — it didn’t.

Flying enemies are one of the biggest problems. They dodge attacks constantly, yet rush into the player to deal contact damage. Many of them have way too much health for their role. Why does a small flying enemy take four or more hits to kill? Combat often devolves into spamming throwing weapons just to get encounters over with.

The game isn’t difficult — it’s unbalanced. Mistakes are punished far too harshly, while success rarely feels rewarding. Checkpoints are often placed far away, forcing you to replay long sections repeatedly. Like Dark Souls 2, the hardest part isn’t the bosses, but the path leading to them.

Platforming sections demand extreme precision, yet the game does not provide a phantom jump or any meaningful mid-air forgiveness. You are expected to execute near-perfect inputs repeatedly, often under pressure, with no room for correction. This makes platforming feel less skill-based and more punishing than necessary.

Act 3 makes things worse. The Abyss mechanic causes most enemies to deal two-mask touch damage, which feels lazy rather than challenging. Instead of engaging with enemies, I often chose to run past them. Enemy health is also overtuned, making encounters feel like a chore until very late in the game — and even then, combat only feels acceptable, not good.

Overall, the game can be summed up in four words: Frustrating. Unbalanced. Annoying. Boring.

Silksong has incredible atmosphere and craftsmanship, but it lacks respect for the player’s time.

A game that demands mastery, but mainly tests your tolerance for frustration

Great game,
most bosses are well made except twins, they are pain in the ass with their hitboxes.

Soundtrack a little better than average

Narrative in metroidvania usually not a big deal, but in this game take huge part and made me think about few things

Chinese myths and cyberpunk atmoshere not usually what you can see, great mix

Waiting for new game from that studio
