Bought it and sat to play for 20 minutes before going to bed...

4 hours later I regret nothing.

I was walking my dog earlier, fully expecting to be ambushed by Goblins.

Maybe it's the generalised anti-Blizzard sentiments. Maybe the fact that people expected something endless and groundbreaking. Maybe it's the monetisation scheme. But in the end Diablo IV did not deserve the excessive hate it got. Having spent quite some time with it on Battlenet I can safely say it's a fine ARPG, a bit light in content but with the basics nailed down in typical Blizzard fashion: Enjoyable chunky combat, sinister atmosphere and comprehensive systems that sacrifice complexity for ease of access. In other words a good base to build on. If you play casually dropping in and out you'll have a blast. If you want to no-life it you'll be done relatively quickly and switch back to PoE. In any case, not a bad proposition particularly now that it's on sale for the holiday season.

If you're a fan of the infinity engine RPG's of old like Baldur's Gate, or newer top down isometric party based titles like Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin, this is pretty much in the same vein.

Engaging story, interesting companions, tons of skills and stats to min max, you can fine-tune the gameplay to be as involved or straightforward as you like.

RPG of the year material!
