In terms of audiovisuals, this is the most stunning game I have ever played. The music, along with all of the ambient sounds crammed into this game, is in a league of its own. I would also be hard pressed to find a game which features smoother animations or more lifelike graphics: it is just simply closer to photorealism than anything else out there.

When it comes to the gaming features, it is safe to say that one can put hundreds of hours into this game and still have stuff waiting to be discovered in it.

Its unique characters and story are so well written that you often tend to forget that this is a video game - it really is just a piece of art in this sense as well.

This would be the perfect package, were it not for the ever-present freezes: it is just infuriating that even on modern hardware this game is unable to run without any major hiccups. To this date, I am still experiencing completely random crashes, to which there is no ultimate remedy, as far as I know.

While the game might look impressive at times and be fun to play where it sticks to its very first iteration, Trine (1), I cannot help but wonder what it could have turned out to be had the devs ironed out all the physics and core gameplay related gimmicks and bugs Trine 2 is filled with.

For instance, while the difficulty itself has significantly increased compared to the first game, the timing of all attacks and jumps feel a lot looser, resulting in misplaced attacks and dodges all the time. It just feels all very random.

Another flaw of this game, at least in my eyes, is the way level experiences have been hidden. I understand, that being constantly on the lookout for the these blue thingies is supposed to serve the puprose of adding to the overall "challenge" of this game, but being a completionist myself, it is giving me literal pain to having to collect each and every last one of these experiences, given that some of them are put in impossible places. Yes, I know that abilites should help the player in obtaining these, but even with those at our disposal, this task gets more and more maddenning as the game develops (the mentioned phenomenon is extremely true for the DLC levels).

Also, Trine 2 appears to be saving or handling level progression quite interestingly too, which would not necessarily be a problem, were it not for the occasional freezes in the game which one cannot do anything with. Windows is responding, everything appears to be working, yet when I switch back to the game, it does not seem to be reacting to any input, be it via keyboard or controller. The feeling when you realise that, due to this very bug, you have just managed to lose half an hour of progression in one of the later DLC levels is just priceless. :)

If you just wish to enjoy the otherwise great graphics or breeze through the game on easy, you should not worry too much about the above mentioned. On the other hand, if you are looking to max out this game with all of its achievements, well... buckle up and prepare for some rage inducing moments, cause this ain't gonna be the fairest or most reasonable challenge of your gaming life.

One of the most addictive games I have ever played: there definitely is a learning curve to it, but the further you get each time, the further you want to advance the next, until you finally get to finish a run just to start it all over again. You would not believe it at first glance, but with all of its hidden tricks and nuances, Spelunky is so deep that Adele could very well be rolling in it... *ba dumm tsss*

Random crashes (especially in Opportunity) and a questionable saving system leave you absolutely infuriated at times, to the point where the whole thing loses its fun factor: the game itself is great, but "throwing" an hour of progress and loot out the window every once in a while like this is definitely not.
