If the first Subnautica was a hamburger with its leafy green lettuce, juicy tomato, perfectly seasoned beef, nippy onion, tart pickle, and artisan bun, with a little toothpick flag stuck into the top; Subnautica: Below Zero would be a little slider burger on a bun, with a pickle, and slightly less seasoned meat. No extra flourish, just that and nothing more.

It’s hard to recommend this game after playing the first one because it compares so unfavorably to it. Below Zero is shorter, has less area on the map, less colorful palette, fewer unique biomes, less interesting story, etc. It’s just less and fewer of everything that made the first game so wonderful.

Just as an example, in the first game you could find a meteor that crashed into the ocean floor and an alien site nearby. Did it serve a purpose in the story? Not at all. Did it enrich the world with some flavor and mystery? Absolutely. In the second game there are no such unnecessary discoveries. It’s like everything that could have been added but didn’t serve the narrative was left on the cutting room floor, and that’s a shame because this game could really have used more of everything to help it stand up to the first one.

Below Zero isn’t bad, it’s just a much smaller and streamlined version of the first game. The thing is, I enjoyed getting lost in the first game in both the metaphorical and literal senses. Crashlanding on an alien planet and struggling for food, water, and shelter for the sake of survival with only the smoldering wreckage of the Aurora to guide you was incredible. In Below Zero the map is so small that it’s somewhat difficult to ever lose your sense of direction. Not only that, because it is so small you never really need to build more than one base.

WARNING: UNAVOIDABLE PUNS AHEAD

Below Zero is an alright game, but it just feels like a watered-down version of what made the first game so awesome. I recommend this one ONLY if you played the first game and need something to tide you over until something as good as the first Subnautica comes along. After finishing Below Zero, all I really want to do is dive back into the meatier first game.

TL;DR - BUY THIS GAME NOW SO I CAN GET SOME MORE SWEET SWEET KATAMARI !!!!

My time with the Steam version is low, but I've been playing Katamari since the PS2 days.

PC gamers have been starved for some hot Katamari action, but the time has finally come. I had to sate myself with Beautiful End of The World thinking there was no hope that a traditional Katamari game would ever happen again - and yet here we stand. This game is quirky and really defies genre. Racing puzzler would be the closest I can some to describing it, but you really just have to play it yourself. Gameplay is an utter JOY and rolling bigger and bigger items up into your snowballish ball is so satisfying.

The music is super catchy. The graphics of the game are just touched up to higher resolutions and largely unchanged as far as I can tell; the cel-shading holds up very well. I was a little concerned that the off axis sticks on my XB-One controller wouldn't feel as natural as the PS controller, but that isn't an issue.

But yeah- totes try this thing out. It's hard to imagine anyone disliking this game. It's quirky, yeah, but the gameplay works on so many levels.

First off - No, I have never played the iOS version.

I bought this because I've had years of enjoyment from Chrono Trigger and hadn't gave Square one red cent from any of it and wanted to change that. After reading the reviews I purchased this and decided to give it the old college try and was fully prepared for the worst (ie Final Fantasy VI for iOS).

An hour into this and I can say this IS Chrono Trigger. Yes, the cat runs away at the beginning so the courtroom trial will end the same way it was always going to end. If you can live with a version of Chrono Trigger where you can't give the girl the cat, than this is just fine. Graphics are pixelated and didn't get the same abomination treatment that FF VI received - meaning they are true enough to the origional. Perhaps a dash smoother in some parts.

If you loved Chrono Trigger, you'll love this. If you've never played Chrono Trigger than you owe it to yourself - nay, life itself to expierence this masterpiece.

If getting that perfect run is what you crave, than you'll be better served waiting for a patch.

The graphics are fine, the text font is fine, and the controls are functional. It's Chrono Trigger on the PC without using a ROM. Nothing more, nothing less. At the end of the day Chrono Trigger is still Chrono Trigger and it's an exquisite example of game design and storytelling at its finest.

I'm not a gearhead or car fanatic by any means, but I do like to learn new things and really dislike that feeling of having no idea of what the mechanic is talking about when I take my car in for repairs. I recommend this to ANYONE who owns a vehicle.

While this game hasn't given me the confidence to endeavor replacing my crankshaft bearings in my garage - I definitely know what they are now and have a fair idea about how an engine works and all the parts that make motion happen.

I also found that once I got into a groove, the game has the same zen-like relaxing effect that mahjong or solitaire might have, and the Steam sales are more than generous - if you catch it for $5 don't miss the opportunity to try this out.

TLDR - Old school fun in the best kind of way (ALSO IT'S FREAKING FREE).
...

The game in its normal mode is only about an hour long, but it's a challenging little romp. Going for 101% completion adds some time to that.

Playing the game on MAX DIFFICULTY is the same "hurts so good" (no pun intended), flying on a wing and a prayer adrenaline rush that I get from Dark Souls. It's not impossible, but hoo boy is it a ride!

The throwback graphics hit a sweet spot between an advanced Atari 2600 game and a primative NES game. It's super charming and the graphical "errors" are clearly an homage to those early days. I also like the choice not to make this a twin stick shooter and to keep the controls as simple as directional input and a single button for interaction or special attacks for just a little more of that old school flavor!

There's some witty humor to be found in the dialogue, but the game's real personality SHINES in the music. This baby is filled with expertly crafted tunes you're sure to get stuck in your head.

I can't reccomend this game enough. It's super short on normal mode, but that's okay - it's free! Max difficulty will have you howling with savage pride each time you beat a level you get stuck on.

Play it, love it, tell a friend.
