a classic that still holds up and shines

Elden Ring Nightmare left me pretty disappointed overall.

First off, I really don’t like the leveling system. I get that they wanted a fresh start every time, but it just doesn’t feel satisfying compared to a traditional system. The characters themselves don’t appeal to me much either. The abilities are okay, but the characters i dont like — especially frustrating was that there’s a blonde female character I wanted to play as, but apparently she’s either not playable or locked behind some unclear condition.

Visually, everything feels repetitive and bland (you could eazyly say that about elden ring but here its all limgrave or limveld). The environments all look the same and lack atmosphere, which makes exploring boring. Some “boss fights” are just huge groups of enemies instead of actual bosses. Also, despite what screenshots suggest, there are no real dungeons, which is a big disappointment for fans of Elden Ring’s world.

Finding people to play with is painfully slow, even though the game just released. That’s a bad sign for the community or the matchmaking system. On top of that, the game suffers from the same technical issues that plagued the original Elden Ring — like hdr bug and steam chat bug — but without the original’s fun. Also has no text chat is bad for this type of game and also no crossplay.Has also no pvp even so it was known but still makes it much less fun.
I wish each day had "get ready" phase and not instantly next day, to compare to a game/mode that feels more comparable , day 2 in dmz or day2 in mwz felt better becouse it had long loading in between (or how it is in payday2 with days and ready up again) .
Also always hard to say if those games should have pvp or only pve (a love and hate thing with but also without).

All in all, Elden Ring Nightmare just doesn’t live up to expectations (my). Solo, I’d rate it a 3/10. With random players, maybe a 4/10. And with friends, it goes up to a 5/10. But overall, it’s a disappointing 4 out of 10.

-weird visual changes
