Update(Nov 25th 2025): So my main gripe has been resolved after taking them nearly 3 weeks to have fixed, though there are still some standing issues to be addressed of which are numerous and others have been reporting on consistently in the discussions here on Steam, I don't count Reddit whinging. TL;DR I still won't reccommend the game 'til some more fixes and changes are made to the game itself and its servers.

Hey EA, Dice, address the damn bugs and recent server performance issues we've been seeing the past few weeks. The latency has been getting a little out of hand and the lag compensation makes it insanely difficult to judge whether or not I actually kill someone.

Last week(as of writing this) when they pushed the fix to make the challenges they had easier on requirements completely broke the system, those of us that had met the new requirements prior to the patch weren't transferred over properly and now our unlocks are effectively softlocked. I am missing 3 of the unlockable weapons AND the respawn beacon for assault which is insanely pivotal for the class and gameplay.

The solution? Just keep ignoring player feedback and drop more money packs, gee, thanks EA just when I was giving you greedy bastards a second chance.

While I love the game and what it has to give for Battlefield, I cannot recommend this game until some of the glaring issues are actually acknowledged and dealt with.

BRILLIANT WORK HELLDIVERS, WE REMOVED THE AUTOMATON THREAT THAT HAD PERVADED SUPER EARTH IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO SOW DISCOURSE. Now we may return to liberating the galaxy, as willed by managed democracy.

Hopefully you learned your lesson Sony, lets keep the ball rolling for the betterment of this game and the industry.

Review from May 3rd 2024:
After the most recent news drop about PSN account linking becoming mandatory, I cannot in good conscience recommend this game at all for anyone especially for our fellow Helldivers that are stuck in regions where PSN accounts cannot be made. Unless Sony gets their collective heads out of their asses on trying to get people to use their service that's KNOWN for big security breaches and data leaks, my review will stay negative.

Damn shame Sony can't just let a good developer and game be without some kind of stupid thought process behind their greed.

Edit (June 29th 2025):

So the game is broken again lmao, I don't know or understand how it is they did it this time but they broke ALL weapons across the entire air tree, gun hits don't register or do much damage at all if any now, air to air missiles either don't track properly to the point you can just dodge them by turning slightly or rolling if they do start tracking at all, and they sometimes will just fly through your target, or when they do actually decide they wanna do damage it'll only count as a "hit" on a coin toss if you're lucky.

They say they pushed out a hotfix to address the issue, and yea sometimes my weapons do work more consistently but I'm still getting instances of missiles at top tier just not working as they should 50% of the time. But hey at least their online storefront still works fine and dandy to rob suckers that wanna pay their way into the top!

Gaijin, guys, please actually consider slowing down your content releases to address and start untangling your mess of a game engine thanks.

Edit 1 of many to come:
So recently, on July 13th 2023, Gaijin had released a roadmap of the upcoming changes they wish to make to the game after the most recent strike and review bombing by the playerbase. It seems they wish to finally do us good and have listened to us with the updates they laid out for the future months of this year, with one of those changes for the economy regarding Silver Lions gains and repair costs becoming far more tolerable and better than previously over the last couple of years, good job Gaijin! However, I will continue leaving my review negative and the previous review I gave in my part of the protests last month in May 2023. If Gaijin does continue on this path of bettering themselves and the game for us the players, I will consider changing my review and outlook of the game overall.

Previous Review from 20 May 2023:
TL;DR Current game is ♥♥♥♥, grind is ♥♥♥♥, and Gaijin are absolutely only in it for the money and care not its community. If you're thinking about playing this game, don't. Save yourself and find something better with your time. I'm doing my part.

First off I'm gonna start this off with some quick pointers why I am leaving this review at my hours. I started this game way back in the day when I had a real ♥♥♥♥ laptop and basically no money for newer games cause I was a student, and I absolutely loved learning about aircraft and flying in this game, and once they released ground battles, I was hooked for good for many years. I've come and gone a few times, but I always came back.

Now, after their recent post about their F2P model and regards to the economy and research changes they attempted to make, they are trying to shift the blame on the players instead of reflecting on their blatant contempt for the community with so many things in recent years like the economy changes make it practically impossible for F2P players to make it past T3 let alone T4 without stupid amounts of money for premium time and premium vehicles so you can progress faster than half dead snail. You're eventually going to hit a pay to play wall, and it's not nice.

Sure the game has had its fun moments, but 75% of the time it's always just pure agony and rage, this is the only game that actively turns my friends on each other consistently every time we decide to slog it out together.

I'll likely change my review if this actually does have an effect on them with the community voicing their great discontent with the current state of the game, and I'll name a few almost everyone unilaterally agrees on. Fix the BR system or get rid of it entirely, increase SL (Improved as of July 20th 2023) and RP gains so that when losing streaks happen you're not forced to drop down into a lower BR to recoup your losses which happens way more than it should! Parts, FPE, and the first upgraded shell type for most vehicles should just be available from the get go, it's even worse in 8.0+ cause you're always gonna end up taking a hit without anything else to play in early on when you reach a new BR or tier. For Ground Realistic, CAS is such a massive issue, you'll consistently get killed by aircraft more than tanks 7/10 times overall, there needs to be a cap on how many aircraft can even be allowed in a match at any given time.

Also, Gaijin, You'd shut down the game if we keep sending negative reviews? Alright, I'll call your bluff. You kill your only source of revenue, and all of us players get to go free after gods know how many hours of our lives we wasted into your never ending hell grind of a game.

Right now the game mostly needs Mods and Friends to be anywhere close to enjoyable and replayable, the A.I haven't seen much improvement and are mediocre at best, and their recent decision to double the price of the game and it's DLC is a blatant cash grab, all before the Steam Summer Sale where they'll probably reduce the price back to it's original retail claiming it's "on sale!".
Paradox is withholding features that should be part of the base game and released as patches instead of paid DLC which is pointless as the DLC itself cannot be justified and the same features included in their paid DLC can be added through modding the game.
Until they revert their decision and current business model, this negative review will remain where it is.

Honestly, this game was pretty good when it came out, but I cannot recommend it anymore due to the fact that Dylan(The Developer) has completely abandoned it, as well as the majority of the original community for the most part, and the new music search engine uses Youtube in place of Soundcloud, which is heavily bugged and plaguing the game with performance issues since the change. Honestly, if you want to play this game, just go back to Audiosurf 1, you'll be better off there as there's more to do and the gameplay isn't as ♥♥♥♥.

Edit - 06/30/2020: Game is effectively dead still, no streaming service for music as Youtube also changed their API. So, it relies entirely on local files alone which can quite easily be exploited to spoof scores. Nothing new from Dylan in years, safe to assume he's completely forgotten about the game now and left it to slowly rot away which is a shame.
