Like Nethack but with 14 more colors and an overworld. Be killed by a horde of angry baboon sprites instead of a horde of angry letter "o"'s.

1. Live and drink.
2. Die.
3. Repeat.

Another perfect example of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. It's not the gold brick that gets you...it's the slice of lemon.

If the sounds of dial-up haunt your childhood dreams, you want this experience. If you were a hardcore online gamer in the 80's, please accept this invitation to return to your hallowed past. If you are keenly aware of how much fun can be had in 16 colors, you need to taste this rainbow. If you are interested enough to still be reading this review, look no further and get this magical, retro-flavored puzzler.

This has all the joy and nostalgia of a bygone era without that hassle of checking ZUM rates or a clock to know if you were allowed to frolic in the ether. If you need something more authentic, you'll need a time machine or a cassette tape to load the Nethack binary on your TRS-80 or Apple ][.

Despair and misery, meted out in equal measure. This corrupt soul, made hollow by an onslaught of relentless aversion, moves ever towards The Mountain.

11/10 - my fetid flesh craves the anxious loathing of my next meltdown.

This is the update to UFO and TFTD that you always dreamed of. It restores the challenge and depth that was missing from the more recent XCOM titles. It is everything you wanted, stacked on top of things you did not even know you needed. It feels complete, but leaves the door open for a sequel. It takes the best parts of the first three Microprose titles, and the two Firaxis titles, and mixes them into a perfect, milky froth.

It compares favorably to the perfect cheeseburger, or that one night in high school you will never forget because you had the best time ever with your mates, and you were just old enough to take life by the reigns, but just young enough to be unfettered by the cynical shackles of adult life.

If I had to pick one thing to improve for the sequel, it would be aircraft combat. It is not terribly deep, but it never has been. Firaxis titles ignored it all together, and even the original Microprose titles made it the equivalent of picking from a list of inflight movies, with nothing to do but watch it play out once you made your choice. In Phoenix Point, they plumped it up a bit, making it easy to see where they can take it with the sequel; more than we ever had in the past, with just enough substance to make us complain we did not get more.

I suggest getting comfortable with vanilla before turning on the DLC. The DLC adds more depth but is light on hand-holding. It is targeted towards people who have already played the base game and want it better, faster, harder, but don't need to be told what to do. <Insert joke about spouse/partner/unicorn/et. al.>

Not many games approach pan-galactic gargle-blaster status. IYKYK. Found enough algae to save my duplicants from starving, only to doom them to a slow death of low oxygen. They told me it was not included, but I am still mad. 13/10 would lick slime again. #duplicant4life Except, sorry about the outhouse bro , no cap. :(

Found a data disk, put all my oxygen in the matter replicator, threw my shotgun at a mutant space zombie.

12/10 would die again.

This game is endless fun!

It has a unique mix of turn based and real time qualities mixed with tower defense concepts. The choices of which rooms to power and which doors to open are meaningful, and it's rogue-like-lite elements keep me coming back for more. The fact that multi-player is very solid as well makes this really the only rogue-like-multi-player-tower-defense-dungeon-crawl-resource-management game that I can't put down!

Early Access Review
This early access game has more content than most "finished" AAA titles. The developers are very communicative, and really take pride in this sandbox-style tech-tree-based game. Always "just one more thing" to do before signing off.

I don't have time to write a proper review because the fun never ends with this game.
