If you want to play this game for the multiplayer only, I'd give it a hard pass.

If you're in it for a F2P BR game that is actually, sometimes, pretty awesome, then I recommend it, as it is probably the best BR game at the moment.

Get in there fast, because IW and Activision are about to ruin it!

Early Access Review
One of the more pleasant surprises I've come across. Awesome gunplay, a class system combined of BF and COD mechanics and terrific level design. Probably the best early access game right now!

I haven't been engaged in a game this much for a while... I have just 5 hours spent, but it's mostly due to exams.
A very realistic shooter for people that like Tarkov-style shooters, but with a bit of that dynamic spice.

As a beginner, be prepared to get head-eyed out of nowhere and to get confused quite often.
It's worth it once you learn the medium-sized maps.

I definitely recommend this game!!!

Having not played the original version of Mafia, this remastered version seemed very fresh to me. I had some expectations about free roam, however I was left a bit disappointed that the game didn't feature the kind of free roam that you could see in games such as GTA, Saint's Row or the other two Mafia games. Yet, after some hours of playtime, I realised that this way of storytelling, without being able to choose which missions to go to, was on point.
The city of Lost Heaven is beautiful, stunning. shiny and gritty. It's just what I'd imagine a 1930s city in the US to look like. After finishing the first mission, you can roam the city as you wish, albeit though, without any missions or side quests, but with the ability to collect all the magazines and other collectibles and some cryptic clues.

Enter Tommy Angelo, a cab driver who, by accident, is attacked by Morello's men after which he is helped by Sammy and Paulie who intoruduce him to Mr. Salieri after which they find the thugs who destroyed Tommy's cab and beat them up. In the meantime, Tommy joins the family and helps them become the biggest gang in the city of Last Hope.
The campaign is split into chapters, hence why free roaming is pretty limited. It took me about 10 hours to go through it. I wouldn't consider it short and I'd say that the 30$ price tag justifies the lenght of the story. The missions are well designed and portrayed. You'll be visiting various places like an underground vault, a tobacco warehouse, the mayor's private boat etc. Every mission is uniquely executed. I had no feeling of repetitiveness throughout my playthrough. The story is also well written with completely revamped voice actors and lines. The dialogue and the characters are very likeable and the ending was quite unexpected to me.
Melee combat is pretty basic. The game introduces some parkour elements that were a but rushed. Movement resembles a 2005 game rather than a 2021 remaster. Gun mechanics are similiar to what we've seen in previous Mafia games. The controls are, and I'm not exaggerating, unexpectedly weird. I had to find a way to rebind some keys. For instance, the counter bind was set to some random button on the keyboard. Since all the other buttons were mapped to something else, I had to settle for an awkward keybind for counter.
Driving in this game reminded me of GTA 4's driving and that's a good thing. However, compared to GTA, driving in this game was more balanced and a bit easier. Car physics are realistic, the crash damage too!

The graphics are somewhat similiar to what we've seen in Mafia 3. Character faces are very detailed, buildings have depth and seem very realistic. Car reflections that increase in fidelity during a rain fall are a gorge to stare at. Character facial expressions may sometimes look a bit dated, but you can tell a lot of effort has been put into it, nonetheless.

All things considered, I'd recommend grabbing this game if you can. A great game such as the first Mafia, revamped from the ground up, deserves all the praise and is something that, among numerous 'remasters', is a nice thing to see.

My balls got roasted by a dragon

Great game for the money it is sold for! It also has workshop maps included, so the fun's always there, especially if you play it with your friends. Some maps can be a bit hard, but nonetheless, it's always interesting! There are almost always multiple ways to finish a hole and trickshots are very satisfying :)
