This is probably the greatest game of all time. I'm 200 hours in and only gotten about half way through the content. I will probably log 500 hours before I quit video games altogether because there will never be anything that even comes close to this game.

I am a longtime fan of the Total War franchise. I have to say that I was initially very excited to be playing a new historical campaign. I'm not in any way saying Warhammer I & II were bad, actually I think that they were the best possible thing to happen to the franchise since Fall of the Samurai.

I thought that CA was going to take all the things they learned from making Warhammer and make a historical title that had distinct feeling factions with interesting campaign mechanics.

What we get is so bland and mediocre that it leaves me feeling Rome II-launch disappointment levels. I wanted to like it, I really did, but I find the campaign so boring and frustrating that I can't really even recommend this title to my worst enemy.

No agents leads to boring turns where it feels like you're just sitting around waiting.

No garrisons in minor settlements sounds cooler than it is. The AI walks around with one general unit capturing towns and plummeting public order when you retake the town.

Factions feel the same even though they have slightly different mechanics.

There's more to gripe about but let's quickly talk about what CA got right.

Better recruitment mechanic which makes historical sense and stops the AI from having doomstacks right after you wipe out all their armies.

Family tree is back and it's pretty cool.

Governors and estates are a pretty sweet way to manage loyalty.

Hollow Knight is one of the greatest games I've ever played. It is the only game that has been able to captivate me in the way that Dark Souls 1 did so many years ago. I want to give Team Cherry MORE money because they did such a great job with this game that the measly $10 dollars I paid for it seems like highway robbery for the value I got and am continuing to get with FREE periodic content updates (with more to come).

Pros:
Amazing (albeit cryptic) storytelling.
Beautiful art style.
Fluid controls.
MASSIVE world to explore.
Difficult but fair (in the same way that DS was).
Memorable bossfights.
Longish campaign ( 20-30 hours for the untrue ending ).

Cons:
Limited fast travel. -- normally this wouldn't be an issue for me, but the size of the game world is so huge that it could take upwards of 10 minutes to get somewhere, and most of the time it takes some planning and forethought to complete a task in a remote part of the map. I kind of wish there was a way to unlock a lord-vessel type upgrade toward the end of the game that allows for traveling between benches.

Honestly, though, if the only con I can think of is that the game is too big and immersive, that goes to show you how amazing this game truly is.

Score: 11/10
