Early Access Review
Great if you like RuneScape and Valheim. Got the RuneScape feel with the characters, soundtrack, effects, and skills, combined with the Valheim style of survival gameplay.

So far my only complaint is that I wish it was easier to see where my coop partner was.

PS - a dragon flew over my head while I was building my shack and I pat my shants

At the time of writing, I've played 153 hours and I've still not completed the second act...

Each interaction in this game is crafted to drive in different ways depending on what you choose. The devs have even said to not be afraid of failing as the consequences have many paths tied to them as well.

So far the story has been great and I've ran into no performance issues when playing, except maybe crashing a couple times in coop.

I recommend BG3 for anyone desiring a game with copious amounts of things to interact with and a world full of customisation.

UPDATE:
This plays incredibly well on the Steam Deck too. There are a plethora of community control schemes that make use of all the fancy buttons to let you play how you want but the default scheme works flawlessly for me. It bizarrely feels like a different game using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse.

Looks
Played this on Xbox One and PS4 prior to the PC port and, by no surprise, the PC version looks the best by far. The way they've managed to create such a diverse world to play in amazes me. From the forests to the deserts and all the way up the snowy mountains, everything looks beautiful and it's all filled with wildlife and occasionally other players.

Controls
Controls can be a bit wonky on the keyboard initially but you get used to the them. Gamepad controls are exactly the same as the console versions as you'd expect. One issue with the fact you can use either is that those using controllers have the aim lock whereas those using a mouse do not. Maybe it's just me but PvP is punishing because of this when I use KB&M. Another thing disable the sticky keys shortcut if you haven't already - sprint on foot or by horse is defaulted to shift and sometimes you can get caught tapping it.

Gameplay
The gameplay is great in my opinion but it is slow. This isn't your average first-person shooter, you're actively encouraged to explore the world and take it all in. In terms of levelling and unlocks, it does take a fair bit of grinding if you want some of the more expensive stuff and to unlock the roles but if you vary your time playing the game between story missions, hunting, PvP, etc it feels less of a chore. I definitely recommend playing with friends no matter what though but the environments are relaxing to roam about and get lost in even alone.

Dislikes
I can't think of anything that I particularly dislike that isn't just a part of the game. Obviously since it's a PvP enabled free roam world you will encounter other players who, more often than not, will open fire on you for no reason. There is a defensive mode to stop this from happening to you and the parley* and press charges** systems too.

Other than that there is the fact your horse sometimes has a mind of its own and it tends to be a bit smooth. I personally find it hilarious when I gallop head first into a tree and have my character rocket straight off the saddle but there are people who will find it tedious and frustrating, especially since if that happens when you've stowed a bunch of carcasses and pelts on your horse from hunting, you have to pick it all back up and stow it again.

Overall
Out of everything I've experience, which is nowhere near everything in game, I've had a largely positive experience with Red Dead Online. I recommend the game to people who want to explore a beautifully scenic environment and also to groups of friends looking for a fun way to kill time.

Picked this up for £8.99 on sale but would gladly buy it at the full price.

In addition, although it's not included, Red Dead Redemption 2 (the story counterpart of Red Dead Online) is worth a shot if you haven't already played it too.

* Parley makes it so the person who kills you (and their posse if they are in one) unable to kill you again for a period of time.
** Press charges ramps up their bounty a bit for killing you.
