The game itself is pretty good. It's fun, has decent replayability etc. I'd recommend it, except for 2 things, one of which is a deal breaker.

1) Often it doesn't start. It'll go to a grey screen, but not get further. Sometimes a reboot sorts it, sometimes it doesn't. Often if you get it start the first time, it won't start a second time without a reboot. Drivers are all up to date, so not sure what the deal with that is. Seems lots of other people are experiencing the same based on the forum discussions. I could just about put up with this though, I guess.

2) This is the deal breaker. My game got stuck in a state where it was using a "save game" with only a single life, with no way to start a new game. You could choose a different area, different load-out, even a different character, but it would always drop the lives to 1 as soon as you start. Whilst it's not a particularly hard game, starting with a single life constantly makes it much, much less fun. I've cleared caches, uninstalled and reinstalled, all to no avail. That in itself isn't the deal breaker. What is, though, is that I reached out to the developers multiple times by email about this issues just to be completely ignored. This game is therefore abandonware, with no support or interest from the developers. It's a real shame.

Not single player at all, just multiplayer with (bad) bots. Clunky controls, mixes key mappings / button with a controller if you're playing on keyboard and have a controller plugged in too. Not even a dot for a cross-hair unless you're aiming, which is annoying as hell. Also, either the marines are mega tall, or all of the doors are too small. The worst thing, though, is that it's just no fun whatsoever. Walk down a corridor, shoot loads of aliens which offer no real challenge. Do it again. Open a door. Do it again. No sense of threat, no atmosphere, nothing. That's quite an achievement for a game based on the Alien franchise tbh.

Nice graphics, really great level scenery, but the game itself feels very, very clunky and lacks cohesion

Brilliant, moreish, heavily styled, ruthless fun. Worth every penny!

Early Access Review
Pros:
- Good voiceovers for tutorials etc.
- The game looks really good
- The idea behind the game is good
Cons:
- The UX is AWFUL which, for me at least, completely took away from any fun that might have been there.

No single player, despite being tagged as having a single player campaign.

If you like awesome graphics combined with a floaty, boat-like feel to driving, this is the game for you!

I've played most of the previous DiRT Rally and franchise spin-off games, and this one is a bit odd. In terms of graphics, it's by far the best. It's beautiful. Even the UI work is nicer than previous ones. Great!

But then there's the driving. At best, it's floaty. You feel completely disconnected from the vehicle, as if you're navigating a boat dreamily around a circuit. This is supposed to be fun, fast, racy rally action, not... whatever this has become.

At first I thought it was perhaps just the starter car, and that moving on to more modern, or more powerful, or just more refined cars would change that, but it doesn't. You spend most of your time babying each car sideways around a circuit, waiting for it to be over. Challenging? Fine! Hard to master? Sure! Boring because it feels like some weird cross between rowing and babysitting? No thanks.

Braking is also weird. No matter what setup I tried on the starter car, on tarmac pushing on the brakes gave you one of two outcomes - I lock up in a straight line, or an unexpected straight-line spin. Pulsing them just gives the former. Being light on the brakes gives the former. Mid-to heavy braking gives a spin. On gravel they just lock, end of. The same seems to be the case on other cars. This forces you to drive rediculously slowly. Even at walking pace though, if you don't get the back end out and put power down through the corner, you're going to miss it completely. It's such a strange combination. Everything just feels so wrong.

The sound design is odd too. Everything outside of the driving is fine - it's refined and nicely put together. Driving though... the engine sounds are nice, but seem rather muffled, adding to the disconnect. Surface sounds are nice too - tarmac sounds like tarmac, with the appropriate tyre squeals; gravel sounds like gravel, with pebbles bouncing off the skid plate and sliding sounds when the tyres are sliding (i.e. constantly), but if you go across a grass verge, nothing changes. Drive through jungle undergrowth, you hardly notice. Also, if you step the back end out a bit too much and smack a massive chunk of rock... nothing. Or, at least, very little. No BANG, no crunch of bending metal, disintegrating fibreglass. Just a dull thud, if you're lucky. More disconnect.

It's such a shame, everything else about the game is brilliant. Even the constant re-use of the same bits of circuit has been much better hidden than in previous games. The graphics are the best of any rally game I've played (with the exception of the in-car camera facing the driver and navigator in replays - that's hilariously bad, but you can forgive them that). But the game just feels... wrong. Bad. It's no fun, it's tedious and dull.
