Update (15/06/2025): Sony has FINALLY lifted the regional restrictions from Helldivers 2 and most of their single-player games (Except Until Dawn and Ghost of Tsushima for some reason, and you can't buy the super citizen upgrade DLC yet, but all that could be an oversight.) This is a massive win for managed democracy. There is now no excuse for you to NOT enlist in the Helldivers. (Except maybe having a bad PC)

FOR SUPER EARTH!!!!!!!

Update (06/05/2024): Sony has since then responded and reversed their decision to enforce linking PSN accounts to Steam on all players for the time being, so I guess bullying big companies DOES work. While the rating has been changed the original review will remain for historical purposes.

It sucks that I'd have to leave a negative review for this game, because it IS excellent and Arrowhead should be commended for their efforts. I may have not played a lot but I have had a BLAST spreading managed democracy with friends and strangers from all over the globe.

That said, I simply cannot stand for what Sony is mandating here. Sure, EVERY AAA publisher does this and the requirement to link a PSN account was there from the start, but the "grace period" demonstrated that the game didn't need that at all for it to function. By enforcing the requirement, you're effectively locking out a huge chunk of the PC player base who have acquired this game from playing it simply because of where they live. If this game was meant to be region locked why not do that from day one instead of now?

So instead of enforcing the PSN requirement on PC players, why not make it OPTIONAL? Y'know? Give some incentives for linking your PSN account to Steam such as cross-play with PS players and cross-progression or even give them some cosmetic items and super credits. That'd be a win-win, right?

Otherwise, this helldiver will return to civilian life.

Literally the only game where you shoot nine inch nails at enemies while Nine Inch Nails is playing in the background.
Trent/10

Jokes aside, it's Quake, what else can I say?

Monolith's magnum opus. Still unmatched in 2025.

R.I.P. Monolith
(1994-2025)

Almost everything I've said in my review still stands, so I've left it mostly unedited below.

What would you get if you put John Woo's movies and J-horror with a dash of Ghost in the Shell in a blender? You get a frantic shooter that is all about killing intelligent military clones and getting spooked by a little girl in a red dress and others every now and then, and that result is not only a game that holds up amazingly well eighteen TWENTY years since its release, but it's also, in my humble opinion, one of, if not the best first-person shooter I've ever played, PERIOD.

Great graphics and atmosphere for its time (and even now actually!), serviceable yet intriguing story and some of the best FPS combat to grace the platform thanks to a combination of the level design, particle effects, a solid arsenal of weapons (including one of the best shotguns in FPS history), THE FREAKING SLO-MO, and the excellent AI of the Replica soldiers that is still unmatched to this day make FEAR a timeless classic in the FPS genre and definitely a must-play for any shooter fan out there. Its first expansion, Extraction Point, also gets a recommendation from me as well.

That said, for some reason WB decided to make the first FEAR and its expansions only available for purchase on Steam through the complete pack which goes for 55 dollars when not on sale, an odd and anti-consumer decision considering the age of the game. If you want to get the game (which you should!), wait for a sale, look in key sites like Humble and Fanatical or buy a DRM-free copy from GOG. You can now buy it standalone through Steam, though I would still recommend getting it from GOG seeing as it would be put in their preservation program.

Being a sequel to one of the greatest shooters ever released usually means that it won't be as held in high regard as its predecessor, but I'd argue that Max Payne 2 is just as great, if not better than the first game in a lot of aspects, namely in graphics, presentation, storytelling and even gameplay, Remedy have done an outstanding job improving on what was, and still is, an excellent game for its sequel, I might even dare say that it is more fun than its predecessor! (not to discredit the first game of course.)

Unlike the first game, it's mostly playable out of the box. The only issue is the widescreen resolutions still stretch the game. Again, this is easy to fix, just follow the FixItAll guide in Steam's community hub.

For me, the entire Max Payne trilogy is a must play for every shooter fan, whether playing for the first time or going through them again out of nostalgia like I am, I simply can not recommend them enough.

A true classic of the shooter genre, Max Payne delivers a frantic, challenging yet fun gameplay experience while telling an engaging, gritty revenge story (with some humor) inspired by film noir, 20 years later it still holds up incredibly well and is still an absolute joy to play, just keep that F5 key handy.

That said, the game does require some fixes for an optimal experience, by default sounds won't play correctly on modern systems, choosing widescreen resolutions stretches everything and the game might not run at all on some Ryzen CPUs, fortunately all of these are easy to remedy (heh), just get the Fixpack from the Community Guides and install it to your game's directory, it contains everything needed to fix these issues and more.

Happy 20th, Max. <3

NecroVision is absurd, it's a WW1 shooter that suddenly turns into Doom with dragons, vampires and zombies featuring a protagonist that seems to have two voice actors shouting cheesy taunts at his foes, but its absurdity is a major reason why I actually enjoyed my time with it,

The gameplay is reminiscent of Painkiller (though without the bunnyhopping) with elements from Wolfenstein 2009 and with some melee mechanics shoved in, it even uses the same engine as Painkiller. The result might be a janky mess, but it's honestly a fun mess for me.

Overall, if you can get over the jankiness of the game, NecroVision is definitely worth playing, and for 2 buckaroos one single buckaroo (as of this winter sale!) for the game and its prequel Lost Company when on sale, I'd say you could get something a lot worse with that kind of money.
