Balatro scratches a similar itch as Slay the Spire. If you enjoy poker, a bit of randomness, and addictive gameplay, this is certainly a game for you. Highly recommended.

There is no reason to not get this game. It's the entire Slay the Spire PLUS significant additional content. You can play as the bosses and fight against the heros. Many new decks, strategies, and secrets. Can't recommend highly enough. STS with well tested and implemented extra modded content. This is a separate game on Steam for a reason folks!!! Play it.

PvZ is one of the cutest games I have ever played. My son and I each beat it years ago on Steam. My younger daughters have enjoyed it on iOS and the Nintendo DS. This game regularly goes on sale and should net dozens and dozens of hours of fun. The core mechanics are interesting enough, but it's the extras that kept us coming back and encouraged us to complete the game.
New unit types are received as rewards for progression and are used to offset the more difficult locals (3 locations with night/day playing differently) and enemy types that appear throughout the game. There is a fair amount of skill involved when deciding which units to take into battle and where to place those units during frantic moments. Mini games and the zen garden spice things up a bit. The zombie encyclopedia is a good way to research how to beat a level if a new enemy type appears too difficult.
Beating the game rewards the player with the cutest and funniest music video ever, which features some of the most memorable plants and zombies in the game. Feel free to YouTube it. Whatever you do, just don't let the zombies eat your brains!

Trine 2 will be a game that I always remember fondly. I bonded with my children as we escaped into this 3-player adventure. The varying difficulty levels were appropriate given our varying skill levels. Trine 2 is more beautiful, plays more fluidly, has more variety in level design and enemy types, and is simply a better experience than Trine 1. Trine 2 is a less frustrating and a much longer experience than Trine 3, which we eventually abandoned after an ill-advised preorder.
If your kids are young enough, they will enjoy the fantasy story line and might really get into 'being' the character they identify with most, even though the game luckily allows for each player to switch on the fly between the wizard, archer, and knight throughout the game. In our household, 'being' the characters transitioned into a recurring bedtime story full of wizards, archers, knights, kingdoms, princesses, and all sorts of goblins, gouls, and orcs.
If you are looking for a great side scrolling adventure game to play with your children, this should hit your sweet spot. Highly recommended.

There has never been a game that captures my attention so fiercely, that scratches an itch I can't quite pinpoint, that has me coming back for more so often, and that sucks me in for one [read: ten] more game(s) like Rocket League. This game is expertly designed, well implemented, and perfectly supported. I can't recommend it enough for fans of sports games, for fans of competitive or cooperative online games, and for fans who don't have 6 hours to dump into an epic story each night. Just don't be surprised when you dump 6 hours into this epic gameplay each night! Happy gaming. I'll see you on the pitch! -Ionic/EOrtli1

My son left town for a week to visit relatives. I took off work to take care of and spend precious time with my 1 and 2 year old daughters. When they were awake, we strolled around the block, went for car rides, played toys, When they were alseep...one word...Braid. Special week. This game messes with your mind in such a good way. It's a difficult physical puzzle game played as a platformer. The story is deeper, albeit slightly hard to follow, than I expected. I had never rewinded time in a video game before Braid. The concept is borderline genius, and Jonathan Blow (creator) runs with it with surprising results.
I'll recommend this game to gamers who don't get frustrated easily, who like the satisfaction after a difficult puzzle is solved, and who don't mind thinking before acting in a platformer. If it gets too difficult, there's always the Internet:)

4 player fun! My 6, 7, and 14 year old children and I have played this together on a number of occasions on our 4 computers. It's largely cooperative and reminds me of the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game with over the top side-scrolling action. Players fight over coin and weapon drops while tearing up the AI mobs of enemies. There is an overview map that you slide along ala Mario 3 to play different stages. There are pets that you can purchase who follow you on the battlefield and grant you bonuses. There is a weapon shop where you each choose your favorite weapon.
Play with a controller!

Botanicula is a creative game that is full of imagination and humor.
It's an on-rails game of interacting with a plethora of insects and out-of-this-world creatures. You'll find and collect keys to get beyond certain points. Trying to figure out where to go next and to make sure that each path is fullly explored was what my children enjoyed most about this game. The sound and art design is well above average. If you can find this game at a reasonable price, you and/or your children may enjoy it.
