TL;DR: worth playing it if cheap.

I'd give a mixed review if possible, but I think the game overall is "good". The art is nice, the concept is fun (although not really original) and the gameplay feels fine.

There's nothing groundbreaking about the game concept, it's just a puzzle game about placing characters and situations in order to match the level's objective. If you've played any puzzle game themed around temporal paradoxes you'll probably crack this game very easily.

The game is indeed extremely short, I 100%ed it in little over 2 hours, and that included a 20 minutes lunch break where the game was just idle. With zero replayability, the main issue I have with this game is the price. If you pay over 5 dollars for this game, you'll probably be disappointed in the end. If you catch it on sale and want a little, easy, puzzle game, it's worth considering picking up, but only if you can spare the money and don't mind it being a one time thing.

PS: this game has an achievement for playing over 2 hours, clearly intended for you not to be able to return the game if you want to 100% it. Personally, I just find it sad that the developers felt the need to include that because the gaming community has such a hard time accepting some games are simply short. Having said that, I do understand some people being genuinely angry about paying full price for such a tame experience. Again, consider buying it if you won't be offended by how short it is.

Amazing game overall. Beautiful art, from the graphics to the music. The platforming aspect is spot on, difficult at times, but never so frustrating that it feels unfair. The onboarding is also terrific, no boring tutorials, just very smart ways of presenting the player with tools and problems and letting them figure it out. The game has a metric ton of hidden content, but all the clues are there for you to find it if you have the inclination and put in the effort. I've played it at a very relaxed pace and have just gotten every achievement at 24 hours, but the game has so much content I haven't seen I'll probably keep playing for many hours more. Absolutely loving it.

TL;DR: Too luck dependent. Not a lot of interesting/innovative gameplay, IMO. Tried to get into the story, but it felt underwhelming. The information you'd need to actually get into the game play is hard to access or confusing. Feels like it has volumes of content, none worth a second look.

Really not the worst game I've played, but after five hours it feels like there isn't much too it. The combat, at least what I've seen until now, is underwhelming: two types of attack, two types of defense, a handful of modifiers, a few card draw mechanics, but nothing complex or challenging. It often feels like you're playing rock, paper, scissors against the enemies while completely depending on what cards you've drawn. Sure, you can try to build a balanced deck, or one that fits the particular enemies you'll find in the dungeon you're exploring, but information about what cards are unlocked by raising which "skill" is not readily available. Neither is the information about what cards specific enemies use, you can check it out in your base in your bestiary, but not in the dungeon where you most need it.

The map building segment is interesting, but, again, nothing to write about.

The amount of classes to choose from feels like bit excessive and some classes are not even that different from other existing classes.

I tried to get into the story, but after clearing almost ten dungeons (you need to beat each one three times to clear it) I really didn't feel like there was anything to get into.

If you're looking for a game to play with someone who hasn't played many video games before (or any at all), this is a good choice. I picked up It Takes Two because my girlfriend wanted to play something with me, but nothing in my library at the time seemed like something someone with zero experience holding a controller would enjoy. I'm pretty happy I found ITT: we finished it over a weekend, played for about 20 hours, and really enjoyed the experience.

About the story: it's not very good, to be honest. It's bad enough that you can enjoy yourself by laughing at how bad the writing is at some points. Luckily, everything else in the game makes up for this.

About the gameplay: It's pretty good. I've been playing video games for the last 25 years, my girlfriend hasn't played anything since Toy Story for Sega, and we both had fun. The puzzles and platform sections were easy enough that she didn't get too frustrated and got the hang of it relatively quickly. Having said that, there were some more complex and challenging stages where we both had to really put in the effort.
And since the gameplay is not always symmetrical (you're not both doing the same task with the same tools), it forces you to cooperate and play together. Sometimes one of you has to manipulate the stage's platforms and settings to allow the other one to do the actual platforming and progress the game. Other times, one of you drives some sort of vehicle, and the other one has to shoot enemies. The game switches the game mechanic often enough that it makes for an enjoyable experience that's not monotonous. There are also minigames scattered throughout the game for both players to compete against each other.

And last thing worth mentioning is the level design. Some stages in this game are truly gorgeous. I honestly wasn't paying too much attention to this aspect, but when we reached the music stage, we both commented on how pretty it was, and you just can tell somebody had tons of fun building it.

TL;DR: Good platforming and puzzle game to play with someone who doesn't play video games. Second-rate story and writing, enjoyable playability. Some levels were visually very pleasing.

If you're looking for a game with a compelling story and relaxing game-play, keep looking. The story is predictable, the backstory that I imagine is supposed to be complex and deep feels stereotypical and shallow. The game-play is abhorrent. Why give players settings to explore if you can get stuck by exploring the setting? I really wanted to like this game, but, to me, it's just a half-baked idea. I can't really understand why so many people liked this, but more power to them, I supposed.

Possibly one of the greatest games I've ever played. A perfect mix of fun and interesting gameplay, and exceptional storytelling.
