Early Access Review
Played through 2 maps fully too a win. First one was about 12 hours, second about 8 hours and that was against 7 AI.

Okay so lets get this reviewed started.

The good and the bad:
- Players like Heroes Of Might and Magic 1-4 and is turn based (though you are limited to one character moving at a time so you can't queue up multiples moves)
- Graphics look modern and fancy but don't really make sense as a lot of maps have lots of various zones that just mash together.
- The UI is pretty straight forward but still clunky in all the ways HOMM was (you have no direction when searching for buildings you just hover till you find what you need or know what it looks like)
- Combat is the same as HOMM was but you will almost never sit and manually play, you will 100% of the time auto-combat and it moves so fast it pretty much breaks the immersion. HOMM would auto-combat but walk normal, this game turns on the x8 speed and eveything just flickers till the fights over

Ok now for the bad bad needs fixed removed changed or something:

- The portals are really inneficient and annoying. In most maps you have no way to know where they are going and you will get confused fast. Also walking aimlessly to always gets to them gets rather cumbersome.
- Walking distance needs to be buffed by x2, currently walking talks way to many turns even after you are buffed
- Gold accumulation early and mid game and even in to late game with mutliple cities is just terrible, you will aways be out of gold and out of needed resources like the purple crystal. I had 7 mines going at one point and still had to buy 60% more then i was making just to accommodate troop purchases and that was only of one faction, not 2-3-4 if you get all of them
- Too many skills to make sense of, and they aren't grouped to make sense of them so you have to mouse over each one to guess what its going to do and honestly with many troops not being able to use abilities like you would think it felt like it was just there most of the time rather then something I could use. This also ties into the skills at bases, you level it up, get skills to teach but when your player is parked at a camp ther'es no way that I could find to directly teach them anything. but if they arrived randomly then they would?
- Equip-able items and slots turned into a joke, sometimes i'd have 6, most times I'd have 4, but I had an inventory full of 30 more I couldn't use. And in most cases I couldn't use the bigger ones because it always says i didn't have enough energy. Also still can't figure out how I accumulate energy
- On field combat abilities seemed to be either not used or the auto combat played so quickly i couldn't see them being used like the magic spells that HOMM had. It was very intentional in HOMM but in this game it just wasn't hitting. A lot of them just don't make sense or feel like thers an edge given.

Now for the really bad:

I run a 3080sc, 5800x3d, 64GB of ram and can play star citizen at 90+ fps at 2k. This game however lags horribly between its interactions. From leaving a fort, to entering a fort, to moving units around, to selecting them, to shifting between screen locations and the next day cycle. The stutter/tick/feel was just awful. If i had to say it, HOMM ran better 28 years ago on windows 95 if I'm being dead honest.

And last but not least the sound. Wasn't really impressed with unit's unique sounds or the game feel overall. Lots of typical ambient noises but nothing really making the units there own. Not to mention the lack of units and just the overall repetativness of it all.

Now it is an unfinished game, but those are my thoughts coming from HOMM2 over 25 years ago. I used to live in that game, made tons of maps, I know what I had, what I hoped the game would be. Currently I'd give the game a 5/10 for being unfinished since lots of changes can take place. It feels like the vibe is there, but it needs to be tuned a bit....ALOT.
