I have not enjoyed a game this much for a very long time.

The single player stays true to what made doom great in the first place but has learnt from the advances and pitfalls of the modern FPS. With the genre feeling tired due to publishers trying to milk everything they can out of their IP *cough* activision *cough*. This is a breath of fresh air and return to form for the mighty FPS.

Put simply: Brutal weapons. Badass demons. Gore everywhere. Level design so incredible it's a damn work of art. Heavy AF soundtrack. Intense, fluid combat. 12+ hour campaign. Graphics that make your eyes bleed and a well optimised engine.

If you love FPS games, stop reading now and buy this. You owe it to yourself to play what will fast become the benchmark (yet again) for how it should be done. Forget multiplayer, the single player is worth the full £40 alone.

But don't buy into the hate circlejerk for the multiplayer, it's basically halo but faster and with demons. While it's not the classic doom MP people wanted it's still a lot of fun to run round as a hulking demon, ripping players in half. When stacked up against expectation and the single player, the multiplayer seems weak but if you can put those things aside it's still a very enjoyable experience and a step above a lot of online FPS games.

It's too early to see what the in game editor "Snapmap" is fully capable of but it seems quite in depth (similar to the trials games editor.) Theres already some impressive creations like coop maps, FFA and survival gamemodes so there's a lot of promise. While its a shame that ID hasn't released any mod tools to the public, they haven't said they intend to lock people out. So there's every chance that the doom community will do what they do best ;)

10/10 would punch demon in face again

This game had ruined all other games for me. It is pure gaming perfection, it's all downhill from here. 10/10
