I can't tell if I'm really playing the spiritual successor to Freelancer or if I just got transported back to 2003 and am a kid again

Fun, addictive, and maybe on the short side for something in the incremental vein (about 5 or 6 hours of active play for me), but at US$5 it's a great deal. Hoping to see expansions in the future.

tl;dr: there's a demo, just give it a shot. I'm super happy to see more indie devs bringing the game demo back into vogue.

If you enjoy games like Risk of Rain or especially Vampire Survivors, this is right up your alley.

As it stands there are two modes, Rog's and Survival. The former is a campaign that lets you make choices on rewards or challenges by progressing through a zone map. The latter is a one-off live-as-long-as-you-can game mode. Both give you soul crystals, which are used for a general progression system that gives you passive buffs at the start of every run, but by far the more enjoyable of the two is Rog's and is where you'll want to start.

An awesome concept - fast-paced, 4-player round-based shooter that rewards fast decision making and timing. Overall I've really enjoyed the games I've played in IP, except it's marred by latency. Even on US severs as a US (west coast) player, this is the most pronounced example of peeker's advantage I've ever experienced, and it's twice as bad if you play in off hours on EU servers et. al.

The basic concept I really love, but right now the incredible discrepancy in what players see and what actually happens thanks to latency is practically an insurmountable hurdle.

I spent $15 on Terraria around its initial release. The 1500 hours I have on record for the game were well spent. Many have called the game a "2D Minecraft with more combat focus", and that's apt. Part platformer, part action game, part creative sandbox, all fun. I cannot recommend Terraria enough.

The vanilla game is outstanding in its own right (and has one last huge content update in the works), but if that's not enough, there are a number of stellar content mods available on the forums, including Thorium, Calamity, Tremor Remastered, N Terraria, Spirit Mod, and many more.

200 kills into challenge mode and I wondered where the time had gone. This is a real homage to the Descent of old and I anxiously await the full release.

I can only hope that when Descent has been reborn, Freespace is too.

Mixed feelings about this one.

As a mouse-and-keyboard PC gamer, the consolification of the interface and ship combat feels awful. The zoom is weird, the interface manipulation is weird, all the usual problems you'd expect on the interface of a console port.

On the other hand, the game evokes strong memories of Freelancer and even Freespace (god those beam weapons are gorgeous). It remains to be seen if the latter can overpower the former for me, and it also remains to be seen whether the game's interface will ever be de-consolified for the proper PC interface. As it stands right now, I just can't overlook the way the game handles.
