Great survival game, you could just spend hours exploring and adventuring and not get bored. Combat may not be as flashy as other games, but it's sufficient imo. At least personally, I dont play this game for the combat.

Building is also fun, but i'm the kind of player who watches a youtube video, gets inspired to build, gets on the server and end up building the most basic ass house in the history of house designs.

Devs are constantly updating the game and listening to feedback, which is great. With every update, i keep coming back and starting up a new save, go adventuring for hours and hours until eventually i take a break and go play other games. Then another update drops, and the cycle repeats itself.

The gameplay loop is relaxing at first, but gets boring pretty fast. Especially watering the damn trees, bushes and flowers, the process takes ages and gives so little in return.

Good to pickup for a few hours of chill time, but don't expect to be playing it for a long time.

Pick it up if there's a sale.

First monster hunter game I played, really enjoyed my time from a low rank hunter all the way to master rank (except the parts with the handler, cuz she hella annoying). The graphics, the way the monsters move, interaction with the environments etc make this game a real fun experience. While it could use some quality of life changes, it's still a really great game, especially for those who've never played the previous games.

The number of possible builds you can try out are also one of the main reasons I love this game. You wanna be a weab? Longsword. You wanna pretend you're in Attack on Titan? Dual blades. You wanna stay behind a big shield and poke monsters in their private parts? Lance. You want to play some dope tunes while bashing a monster's head in? Hunting horn. With 14 different weapons, you will definitely find a weapon that suits your playstyle.

As for the grinding aspect of the game, while it's not really that grindy apart from the gem RNG. The game has pretty good mod support so feel free to install some mods to make grinding a lot easier. There are plenty of mods available that can help with farming or basically remove farming (I wouldnt recommend removing it entirely, where's the fun in that?) Even if you install mods that alter the HP and damage of the monsters, as long as you dont use them in Co-op and affect other players, you're good to go.

So all in all, a great game for players who are new to the series like me. I'd recommend it even in 2021/2022, but you will need to install some mods to help with farming since most PC players like me are waiting for the PC release of MH:Rise. Overall score: 9/10
