Early Access Review
It's really good. Don't forget to mod so you can add custom tracks.

Amazing controls, weapon options, and mission variety make this one of the most fun and complete feeling made-for-vr games I've played.

Yep. The combat is really weird, and kind of bad. The voice acting mostly sucks. The characters look damn weird a lot fo the time. Also, the pacing is a little weird. There are some sections that last too long. Those were all of the flaws, and the game, in my opinion, has enough positive aspects to be good in spite of its flaws. The characters still manage to be unique and memorable despite their horrid voice acting. The story is interesting, with some especially cool moments that touch on occult themes and the racial divide between humans and non-humans. The alchemy system is well done, and actually makes the game immersive. The areas, the world, and the atmosphere are all excellent. You can really just get lost in it, and the great score helps with that. Overall, while there are some flaws on the surface and one deeper down, the game is still really good, and really worth playing if you want the best witcher experience.

This game is a lot of fun. The experience of building your army and then riding into battle is great, and the combat is surprisingly well done for the game's age. The world can feel a little barren at times, and the game has little to offer in the way of character, but this problem is mostly outweighed by the addictive and unique gameplay.

Not very good. The writing is usually predictable and bland. The quest design tends to be uninteresting. There is very little good characterization, both in the world and the actual characters. They mostly all feel really generic, with only a handful of characters ( like cicero) being memorable or interesting. The story for main and side quests is pretty bland as well without strong characters and quest design to hold it up. These quests are also hampered by a lack of good roleplaying. You (the player) have very little input most of the time when it comes to how events actually play out. The only thing that comes to mind is siding with a side in the civil war, but that quest isn't very well fleshed out. There are few moral choices or stances that you can take, and this hurts your ability to care about your character or the story you take part in. The roleplaying also suffers from lack of character specialization. It begins to feel like your character can just do everything, with the only barrier being how much time you spend leveling up. Your character doesn't feel unique as a result. The combat is not as bad as the other stuff. It does it's job well enough, but melee can sometimes feel clunky. The magic is more interesting, and it can be fun to try different spells. Unfortunately combat never really feels that intense or strategic, and difficulty just means more sword swings. The implementation of npc schedules is well done, and shines as a positive aspect swimming in this game's sea of flaws. It actually makes the game quite a bit more immersive. For some, this alone is enough to make the game into a sandbox and exploration dream come true, but I dont think it's enough to salvage all the distracting flaws.

P.S. - There's also paid mods now [again]

This game is great. It has a good story, interesting characters, and locations with compelling backstories. It also has excellent role-playing, both in terms of the player having real input into the course of events, and in terms of creating a truly unique character setup to experience the game with. Combat is improved from fallout 3, and it does its job. The voice acting is mostly quite good, with some exceptions. The game world may seem barren, but there are enough interesting places littered throughout for this to not be a problem, and enhance the desert-y feel.

I regret playing through this game as many times as I did, for as long as I did. It is what made me realize i don't like it when games have loot grind for the sake of loot grind (like diablo). The game's writing is funny and entertaining, but this only matters for one playthrough (the game expects you to play through three times). Overall, this game is best experienced with friends for only one playthrough, as any stretch of lone playing or replays can cause the appeal to wear thin. I wish there was a maybe catergory, but there isn't.
